Garcia starts strong at the BMW ChampionshipFriday 9/5, 11:06 PM CT
Sergio Garcia, working as one of few that could potentially challenge Vijay Singh for this year's FedEx Cup, carded a round of 68 today, two strokes under par, three strokes off the leading pace set by Camilo Villegas at the BMW Championship, according to the PGA.

Our View: Four players have finished inside the top 10 in each of the first two Playoff events. The list includes Singh (two-time winner), Garcia (tie for second/Barclays, tie for fifth/Deutsche Bank), Mike Weir (tie for seventh/Barclays, second/Deutsche Bank) and Justin Leonard (tie for seventh in both). Of that group, Garcia had the best start this week.
Singh opens with par at BMW ChampionshipFriday 9/5, 11:02 PM CT
Vijay Singh, who is coming off victories in the first two events of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup, opened with an even-par 70, according to the PGA. Singh was one of 47 players out of the 69-man field to post a par-or-better round on Friday.

Our View: Making the cut will all but assure Singh takes this year's FedEx Cup, but he would like to improve and get in the mix for a win and dominate the event. He tends to start a bit slow on Day 1, so look for lower scores in the next three rounds.
Stricker continues to find success in FedEx PlayoffsFriday 9/5, 11:00 PM CT
Steve Stricker, fresh off news of his selection for this year's US Ryder Cup team, posted a round of 66 (-4) today at the BMW Championship in St. Louis, trailing the tourney leader (Camilo Villegas) by one stroke, according to the PGA.

Our View: Steve Stricker has never finished outside of the top 20 in a PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup event. Last year, he finished first at The Barclays, tied for ninth at the Deutsche Bank Championship, third at the BMW Championship and tied for 17th at THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. He has tie for 19th and tie for 13th finishes under his belt so far this year. With his score on Friday, Stricker is now a collective 66-under par in Playoff events.
Villegas takes first-day lead at BMW ChampionshipFriday 9/5, 10:57 PM CT
Camilo Villegas posted a 5-under 65 in the first round of the BMW Championship to take a one-stroke lead over Steve Stricker, Kenny Perry, Tim Herron, Andres Romero and Stuart Appleby, according to the PGA. Although at a different course than Bellerive Country Club, Villegas has played well in the past at the BMW Championship. In 2007, he trailed by one stroke after the first and second rounds before finishing tied for seventh. That finish propelled him into the 30-man field for the THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola.

Our View: This marks the second time in Camilo Villegas' PGA TOUR career that he has held at least a share of the 18-hole lead in a TOUR event. He opened with an 8-under 63 at last year's Deutsche Bank Championship before eventually finishing tied for ninth.
