Broncos lock up WilliamsSaturday 9/6, 11:32 PM CT
D.J. Williams and the Denver Broncos reached a five-year, $32 million deal on Saturday according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Williams gets plenty of tackles, but that's about it. He does not rush the passer much, as his one sack from a year ago suggests.
Price downgradedSaturday 9/6, 9:35 PM CT
The Boston Globe reports that Maurice Price (thigh) has been downgraded for Sunday's game against the Patriots. He is now listed as "out" and the Chiefs will only have three active receivers for the game.

Our View: Price is in the running to be the third receiver in the Chiefs passing attack. Regardless of who wins the battle, they do not figure to have much fantasy impact this season.
LJ looking at plenty of work in Week 1Saturday 9/6, 5:06 PM CT
The Chiefs are taking along a mere three healthy wide receivers to New England this weekend which means Larry Johnson will be the primary offensive focus of nearly every play, much the same as he was in 2006.

Our View: Expect New England to counter by stacking eight in the box to stop Johnson. Regardless, he is a good bet for 25 carries, a score and the bulk of the Chiefs' yards on Sunday.
Franklin downgradedSaturday 9/6, 4:55 PM CT
Will Franklin (knee) has been downgraded on the injury list according to the Boston Globe. He is now listed as "out" for Sunday's game against the Patriots.

Our View: The rookie will have to wait at least one more week to make his NFL debut. When he does, he is likely to battle for the third wide receiver spot.
Ross will start for the CardinalsSaturday 9/6, 4:53 PM CT
The AP reports that Arizona Cardinals' center Al Johnson will miss the entire year coming off of knee surgery. Replacing the 29-year-old Johnson on the roster was center Pat Ross, who was elevated from the practice squad. Ross was claimed by the Cardinals on waivers from Carolina on August 1. He spent training camp with the team and was released last Saturday and re-signed to the practice squad on Monday.

Our View: Good news for Ross but bad news for owners who have invested in the Cardinals' skill position players. Look for a shaky play from this offensive line unit and an inevitable injury to veteran quarterback Kurt Warner.
Johnson will miss all of 2008Saturday 9/6, 4:51 PM CT
The AP reports that Arizona Cardinals' center Al Johnson will miss the entire year coming off of knee surgery. Replacing the 29-year-old Johnson on the roster is center Pat Ross, who was elevated from the practice squad. Ross was claimed by the Cardinals on waivers from Carolina on August 1. He spent training camp with the team and was released last Saturday and re-signed to the practice squad on Monday.

Our View: This is not good news for owners who have invested in the Cardinals' skill position players. Look for a shaky play from this offensive line unit and an inevitable injury to veteran quarterback Kurt Warner.
Hubbard waivedSaturday 9/6, 4:18 PM CT
The Browns waived wideout Paul Hubbard on Saturday according to the AP.

Our View: Steve Sanders was promoted from the practice squad to take his place. It's unlikely that Sanders has any fantasy impact this season.
Tarvaris is in good shapeSaturday 9/6, 4:15 PM CT
The Pioneer Press reports that Vikings' coach Brad Childress said he's content under the circumstances about the way quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has practiced this week. Jackson is dealing with a sprained right knee that might force him to wear a knee brace Monday night at Green Bay. "With 48 hours to game time, I think he’s in good shape," Childress said. "He’s practiced a bunch here and gotten good looks at our game plan. I’m encouraged."

Our View: It appears he will get the start but we caution owners against starting him. Look for the Vikings to primarily run the football not only on Monday, but for the majority of the season.
Walker expected to playSaturday 9/6, 4:12 PM CT
Javon Walker practiced on Saturday but remains questionable for Monday's matchup against his former team, the Denver Broncos. The Contra Costa Times expects him to play.

Our View: We like Walker's matchup against the team that cut him at the end of last season. Coach Lane Kiffin indicated that Ashley Lelie and Johnnie Lee Higgins would likely split snaps at split end if Walker cannot play Monday against Denver.
Winston inks extension Saturday 9/6, 3:48 PM CT
Eric Winston has inked a five-year extension with the Texans worth $30 million, according to ESPN.

Our View: Winston has developed into a solid right tackle, and the Texans locked up a key piece of the offense by extending the 24-year-old.
Smith doubtful Saturday 9/6, 3:28 PM CT
Alex Smith is doubtful for Sunday's game against Arizona after suffering a setback regarding his surgically repaired right shoulder, according to the AP. The 49ers didn’t disclose what was wrong with Smith, only saying the injury occurred without contact during practice Friday. Coach Mike Nolan added, "He will be consulting with his surgeon in Birmingham (Dr. James Andrews) for treatment recommendations. At this time there are no specifics to the injury or a timetable."

Our View: Smith was slated to be the primary backup behind starter J.T. O'Sullivan, so now Shaun Hill moves up the No. 2 role on the depth chart. We will keep you posted on Smith's status.
Young remains questionable Saturday 9/6, 3:11 PM CT
Brian Young remains questionable for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He has been recovering from foot surgery.

Our View: Young fully participated in practice this week, but could still be limited or even inactive. The Saints already have Hollis Thomas out of action, and the interior of the defensive line could be compromised against Earnest Graham and the Buccaneers' ground attack if Young cannot play.
Packers' KGB to be game-time decisionSaturday 9/6, 2:58 PM CT
The Green Bay Press-Gazette indicates that Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila will be a game-time decision for Monday's game against Minnesota. He had been experiencing soreness in his surgically repaired knee.

Our View: He would have a good chance to generate favorable numbers while battling mediocre tackle Artis Hicks, but will remain a risky fantasy option due to his game-time status.
Hawk's status remains unknown Saturday 9/6, 2:51 PM CT
A.J. Hawk's status for Monday's game against Minnesota remains unknown, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. The Packers' medical staff hasn't made a decision on Hawk, who completed practice for the third consecutive day. Asked whether he expects Hawk to be cleared for the game, coach Mike McCarthy said, "Hope so. Just taking all the information, and we'll make a decision. Nothing's changed as far as our plan for A.J. Giving him the opportunity to come back. Just didn't want to do too much too fast, but he feels great. We'll see how he feels in the morning."

Our View: Hawk feels 100 percent and has no pain or discomfort from the chest injury, but it is a matter as to whether the team feels he had enough time to heal properly and not be in jeopardy of being re-injured. We will keep you posted on his status.
Titans pleased with Kearse Saturday 9/6, 2:40 PM CT
The Titans are pleased with Jevon Kearse and the club is optimistic in his ability to consistently contribute at a favorable level, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: He struggled early in training camp but improved and closed out the preseason strong. Kearse racked up 14.5 sacks in his rookie season with Tennessee in 1999, which is the exact sack total he has registered over his last three seasons with the Eagles combined. Kearse looks to benefit from rejoining the Titans, but should only be considered for fantasy rosters as a reserve in IDP leagues.
Hilliard could be inactive Sunday Saturday 9/6, 2:16 PM CT
Ike Hilliard could be inactive for Sunday's game against the Saints, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Dexter Jackson will return punts and kicks, and Michael Clayton and Maurice Stovall are also involved on special teams, meaning Hilliard seems the likely candidate to be deactivated.

Our View: Hilliard was unseated as a starting receiver by Antonio Bryant, and has fallen to the point of not being active. The 32-year-old veteran is not worth holding on fantasy rosters.
Kiwanuka accuses Samuels Saturday 9/6, 2:05 PM CT
Mathias Kiwanuka accused Chris Samuels of a dirty play when the Redskins' tackle fell on the back of his ankle after being beaten on a pass rush on the final play of Thursday's season opener, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Kiwanuka said, "Honestly, I thought it was a dirty play. There's no question about it. He was definitely beat and instead of recovering or giving up, I don't know how many options you had, but I just don't think there is any place for that in the NFL." Samuels responded, "On that particular play I was just trying to protect my quarterback. It was never my intention to go out there and injure another player."

Our View: The Giants and Redskins meet again in Week 13, giving Kiwanuka and Samuels plenty of time to cool down.
Coles expected to play Sunday Saturday 9/6, 1:47 PM CT
Laveranues Coles is dealing with a thigh injury but is expected to play Sunday against Miami, according to the NY Post.

Our View: Coles has a good match-up against the Dolphins' secondary, and should be active in fantasy lineups, assuming he isn't a game-day scratch.
Jefferson promoted Saturday 9/6, 1:34 PM CT
Mike Jefferson has been promoted by the Cowboys from the practice squad, according to the Dallas Morning News. Offensive lineman James Marten has been waived as the corresponding move.

Our View: The Cowboys are thin at receiver and Jefferson was promoted to serve as the No. 4 option for Sunday's game against the Browns. He doesn't merit fantasy consideration in standard-sized leagues.
Marten waived by Cowboys Saturday 9/6, 1:29 PM CT
James Marten has been waived by the Cowboys, according to the Dallas Morning News. Mike Jefferson has been promoted from the practice squad as the adjoining move, giving the Cowboys four receivers for Sunday's game at Cleveland.

Our View: He would be eligible for the practice squad if he clears through waivers.
Harris won't play Sunday Saturday 9/6, 1:24 PM CT
Napoleon Harris didn't practice due to lingering soreness in his knee, and coach Herman Edwards indicated he won't play in Sunday's opener against the Patriots, according to the KC Star.

Our View: Harris racked up 116 tackles (83 solo) as a starter in 2007, but holds no fantasy value right now while serving as a backup to Pat Thomas.
Chiefs to play with three wideoutsSaturday 9/6, 1:20 PM CT
The Chiefs are going to play the Patriots Sunday with only three wide receivers, according to the KC Star. Dwayne Bowe, Devard Darling, and Jeff Webb will be the only trio available, as Will Franklin and Maurice Price did not practice.

Our View: This shouldn't be a big deal, as offensive coordinator loves to run the ball and feature a conservative short passing game, and the team would be much more concerned if Tony Gonzalez was out.
Wilford could be inactive Saturday 9/6, 1:04 PM CT
Ernest Wilford could be inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets, according to the Miami Herald. Coach Tony Sparano is deciding whether to carry five receivers, and Davone Bess is expected to see time as a return man, making Wilford the likely candidate to be inactive.

Our View: Wilford was on the bubble to be cut, and should just be pleased he still has a locker with the team.
Dumervil to play MondaySaturday 9/6, 12:49 PM CT
Elvis Dumervil will play Monday night against the Raiders, with a cast on his injured hand, according to the Rocky Mountain News. He underwent surgery for a broken pinky finger in the preaseason.

Our View: Dumervil is the Broncos' top pass rusher as he racked up 12 sacks in 2007, but it remains to be seen if he will be compromised by his cast in Week 1.
Bailey expects to play Saturday 9/6, 12:44 PM CT
Boss Bailey has been dealing with a high ankle sprain but believes he will play in Monday's game against the rival Raiders, according to the Rocky Mountain News. He hasn't played since sustaining the injury in the Broncos' preseason opener against Houston, but said, "I felt really good all week, I think I'll be playing."

Our View: He looks to play, but it remains to be determined if Bailey or Jamie Winborn will start at strongside linebacker. Either way, Bailey should not be considered a starter in standard IDP leagues.
Alexander healthy and ready Saturday 9/6, 12:37 PM CT
Shaun Alexander stated he is healthy and ready to play football, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. He had been working out at the University of Washington and said, "I went back to the basics. I’m in the best shape of my life. Speed, explosiveness and quickness. I don’t think that will be an issue."

Our View: He previously indicated that his signing with a team is imminent, and has been getting a constant flow of calls. He is worthy of a flier if you lack depth at running back.
Peters reports to Bills Saturday 9/6, 12:31 PM CT
As expected, Jason Peters reported to the Bills Saturday after ending his lengthy holdout, according to the AP.

Our View: Bills' spokesman Scott Berchtold indicated Peters reported today and that questions about his physical and roster status won’t be answered until after Sunday’s home game against the Seahawks. Peters won’t play Sunday. He underwent off-season surgery to repair a sports hernia and is required to pass a team physical.
Chad Ocho Cinco probable Saturday 9/6, 12:02 PM CT
Chad Johnson (shoulder) is listed as probable for Sunday's battle with Baltimore, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: Chad Ocho Cinco is fully practicing and should be active in fantasy lineups despite a tough match-up with Baltimore.
Jackson nails down starting job Saturday 9/6, 11:08 AM CT
Lawrence Jackson has nailed down the starting job at right defensive end, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: He had a good training camp and preseason, and is the first rookie defensive end to start with the club since Jeff Bryant in 1982. He will split time with Daryl Tapp and his fantasy impact looks to be limited in his debut.
Watson practices Saturday 9/6, 10:59 AM CT
Gabriel Watson practiced for the first time Friday since suffering a fractured kneecap in the off-season, according to the East Valley Tribune.

Our View: Watson participated in individual drills and might need a couple of weeks of practice before playing. Alan Branch is still unable to practice due to his ankle injury, and the interior of the Cardinals' defensive line will be compromised against Frank Gore and the 49ers' rushing attack Sunday.
Bradshaw's absence not intentional Saturday 9/6, 10:28 AM CT
Ahmad Bradshaw had zero carries in Thursday's opener against the Redskins, but it was not intentional and coach Tom Coughlin admitted that he didn't get the running back rotation set the way he wanted to, according to the NY Post.

Our View: Starter Brandon Jacobs rushed 21 times for 116 yards, and Derrick Ward broke loose for 39 yards on nine carries. Ward also hauled in two passes for 21 yards. The combination of Jacobs and Ward was very effective in the Giants' 16-7 win. Bradshaw could have more games as the odd man out, but Coughlin will likely make sure he sees some action in Week 2 against St. Louis.
Tynes could be out until Week 5? Saturday 9/6, 10:18 AM CT
Lawrence Tynes indicated that he may not return until Week 5 against Seattle, according to the NY Post. Tynes tested his injured left knee Friday for the first time in a month, attempting 10 field goals. He noted he needs to get up to 40 or 50 a day before he tries kickoffs and even thinks about playing.

Our View: Fantasy owners could count on John Carney handling the kicking duties for the Giants until Tynes returns.
Hackett likely to start Sunday Saturday 9/6, 9:32 AM CT
D.J. Hackett, who had been dealing with a toe injury, is likely to start Sunday's game against the Chargers, according to the Gaston Gazette. Muhsin Muhammad will be the other starter, with Dwayne Jarrett working as the No. 3.

Our View: Hackett looks to start, but ranks as an unfavorable fantasy option against the Chargers on their home turf.
Williams expected to start Saturday 9/6, 9:27 AM CT
Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette expects DeAngelo Williams to start Sunday's game against San Diego, and for rookie Jonathan Stewart to reach double digits in carries.

Our View: Williams enjoyed a strong training camp and preseason and is the preferred Panthers' back to employ in Week 1 against San Diego.
Odom is 100 percent Saturday 9/6, 8:59 AM CT
Antwan Odom feels he is 100 percent recovered from his sprained left foot, according to the Dayton Daily News. He said, "I'm back. I'm 100 percent now. It feels good. I'll definitely be ready. It's a good matchup with Gaither. He's big and athletic and has some good hands. He's wide and broad. I've just got to get around him." The Bengals play the Ravens on Sunday.

Our View: Odom racked up eight sacks in 2007 with Tennessee and looks to fare well against tackle Jared Gaither, who is merely a fringe player.
Gostkowski returns to practice Saturday 9/6, 8:42 AM CT
Stephen Gostkowski returned to practice Friday after sitting out Thursday (with a non-injury related issue), according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Gostkowski is a No. 1 fantasy kicker and should be penciled into lineups Sunday in the home opener against the Chiefs.
Starks to serve as third tight end Saturday 9/6, 8:24 AM CT
Max Starks is slated to serve as the Steelers' third tight end in Week 1 against the Texans, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Starks gets the designation as new tight end Sean McHugh will not play.
Holt comments on knee Saturday 9/6, 7:57 AM CT
Torry Holt commented on his troublesome knee, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He said his knee has held up well through the preseason and added, "I feel a lot better than what I did last year at this time."

Our View: If healthy, Holt should once again challenge 100 receptions and a strong yardage total as the Rams' top target in the passing game.
Avery ruled out for opener Saturday 9/6, 7:52 AM CT
Donnie Avery has been ruled out for Sunday's opener against the Eagles, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: He is battling a sprained right knee. The rookie wasn't likely going to make a solid impact against a strong Eagles' secondary if he was able to play.
Brown expected to play in Week 1 Saturday 9/6, 7:48 AM CT
Fakhir Brown suffered a torn rotator cuff early in the preseason but has recovered favorably and practiced without restrictions this week, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: He is expected to see action Sunday against the Eagles, but hasn't had much contact and is still recovering, so his playing time will be closely monitored. The Eagles are thin at receiver this week with Kevin Curtis out and Reggie Brown doubtful, so it would not hurt the Rams' secondary much if Brown needs to come out early.
Long to start on right side Saturday 9/6, 7:40 AM CT
Chris Long will start at right defensive end in his regular season debut Sunday against the Eagles, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He said, "I'm pretty even-keeled. I'll be excited when it's time to be excited, but right now it's just time to work and study my stuff and relax and rest up." Coach Scott Linehan added that the top rookie is coming off his best week of practice with the club.

Our View: He will be battling a rock solid Eagles' offensive line, with a quarterback that knows how to escape pressure (Donovan McNabb). His impact in his debut looks to be minimal.
Moore auditions for Raiders Saturday 9/6, 7:08 AM CT
Brandon Moore, who has been cut by the 49ers and Cardinals, auditioned for the Raiders, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Moore will not push for a starting job and will continue to hold no fantasy value in IDP leagues if signed by Oakland.
Edwards still questionable Saturday 9/6, 7:04 AM CT
Kalimba Edwards is still questionable to play Monday against Denver due to a groin ailment, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: The Raiders will lose strength on their pass rush if Edwards is unable to play, which would give quarterback Jay Cutler more time to find an open receiver.
Walker remains questionable Saturday 9/6, 7:00 AM CT
Javon Walker remains questionable with a pulled hamstring, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Coach Lane Kiffin indicated that Ashley Lelie and Johnnie Lee Higgins would likely split snaps at split end if Walker cannot play Monday against Denver.
