Harrison misses practiceWednesday 9/3, 11:54 PM CT
James Harrison was limited in practice on Wednesday, this according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. However, it was a coaches decision to rest the linebacker, not because of injury.

Our View: Harrison recorded eight sacks and 98 total tackles in 2007.
Peek re-injures kneeWednesday 9/3, 11:23 PM CT
Browns OLB Antwan Peek left practice after he re-injured his knee Wednesday and did not return, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View: When Peek returns he shouldn't hold any fantasy value in standard IDP leagues, but is a solid contributor as a situational pass rusher off the bench for the Browns, as he registered four sacks in 2007.
Manning practices fullyWednesday 9/3, 10:08 PM CT
Peyton Manning took a full practice with the first team offense on Wednesday and is good to go Sunday versus the Bears, this according to the NFL Network.

Our View: This will be the first time that Manning has gone into Week 1 of the regular season without taking a preseason snap.
Gates back up to full speedWednesday 9/3, 8:49 PM CT
Antonio Gates went through a full practice on Wednesday, according to chargers.com.

Our View: This is all but confirmation that Gates will be ready to start in Week 1. If he plays, Gates is a must start.
Murphy ruled out for Week 1Wednesday 9/3, 7:56 PM CT
The versatile Matt Murphy (shoulder) has been ruled out for the Week 1 game against the Seahawks. Murphy works at both offensive tackle and tight end for the Bills, and is expected to miss substantial time to a rotator cuff injury.

Our View: Murphy has no fantasy worth, but his value to the offense, his blocking skills, will be missed.
Fine misses Wed repsWednesday 9/3, 7:46 PM CT
The Bills are one of the healthier organizations heading into Week 1 of the regular season. One of the two players who didn't take the practice field on Wednesday was rookie tight end Derek Fine who is still recovering from a hand injury.

Our View: Fine is a fine tight end and a terrific prospect to have a long NFL career, but his fantasy value is marginal in his rookie season.
Tatupu limited in practiceWednesday 9/3, 7:21 PM CT
Linebacker Lofa Tatupu (knee) was limited in Wednesday's workouts. The team is still hoping their starting backer can practice fully by Friday and dress for Sunday's game in Buffalo.

Our View: Despite Tatupu's status, IDP owners should be considering healthier options for Week 1.
Locklear ruled out?Wednesday 9/3, 7:18 PM CT
Offensive tackle Sean Locklear (knee) didn't take part in team drills on Wednesday, and while there are several reports that the backup tackle has been ruled out, the official injury reports disputes such.

Our View: Locklear is one of the key offensive backups in Holmgren's pass happy offense. While his absence for Week 1 in Buffalo shouldn't be considered critical, a team can never have too many healthy offensive lineman.
Atkins misses practiceWednesday 9/3, 7:12 PM CT
Defensive end Baraka Atkins (back) did not take part in practice today.

Our View: Atkins is behind Patrick Kearney and Jason Babin on the depth charts and typically sees very little action on game day, even when he's active.
Engram ruled outWednesday 9/3, 7:07 PM CT
Bobby Engram, who is rehabbing a cracked shoulder, was officially ruled out of the Week 1 game today by head coach Mike Holmgren.

Our View: Engram is expected to miss four to eight weeks.
Branch won't playWednesday 9/3, 7:02 PM CT
Deion Branch clarified a few things regarding his knee and his comeback, this according to The News Tribune. He had the surgery to repair the torn ACL on Feb. 7, which means that Sunday is the 7-month anniversary of his surgery, a procedure that typically takes some players a year to recover from. Branch has'nt been ruled out of the Week 1 game in Buffalo, but was limited in practice today and isn't expected to dress.

Our View: According to the report he is not close to being ready. Seven months is way too soon for this type of injury. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect the Seattle wide out to be at full speed until mid-season.
Green should start week 1Wednesday 9/3, 6:37 PM CT
Ahman Green is not listed on the Texans' Week 1 injury report, according to houstontexans.com .

Our View: Ahman Green, Chris Taylor and Steve Slaton will all receive playing time week 1, but Green should get the first crack at Pittsburgh's unrelenting run defense.
Basanez re-signed by CatsWednesday 9/3, 6:18 PM CT
The Panthers re-signed Brett Basanez to the practice squad Wednesday afternoon and released defensive end Angelo Craig, this according to the AP.

Our View: The team signed Basanez as insurance for backup Matt Moore who aggravated a a leg injury (broken fibula) suffered in the team's final preseason game. Moore hasn't been placed on IR, but is out indefinitely.
Moore breaks fibulaWednesday 9/3, 6:13 PM CT
According to the AP, backup quarterback Matt Moore did suffer a fracture in his left leg in the team's final preseason game. The Panthers' backup signal-caller had two X-rays and an MRI that revealed no broken bones. However, Moore attempted to push off on his leg during practice today and felt something pop. X-rays revealed a broken fibula, and Moore is out indefinitely. "He had gone out with the trainers and felt good (Tuesday)," general manager Marty Hurney said. "But something happened at practice. Hopefully he'll be back as quick as he can."

Our View: Moore will not be placed on injured reserve, yet, and as insurance the team re-signed Brett Basanez to the practice squad Wednesday.
Garcia still rustyWednesday 9/3, 6:03 PM CT
Jeff Garcia didn't see his first action of the preseason until the team's third exhibition game, and as expected, he was rusty. Rototimes sources report that not only was Garcia intercepted twice in the first half, he could have been intercepted on two other occasions. One of the interceptions was in the endzone from a redzone position. He did throw a touchdown pass to Michael Clayton. The veteran quarterback needed to play against Houston in the preseason finale, but didn't.

Our View: Rototimes ources report that while he's veteran savvy, he's unprepared for the regular season after only 32 snaps in one preseason game. Additionally the 38-year-old depends on being mobile and he's still gimpy from a Training Camp with calf injury.
Brady ready to go in week 1Wednesday 9/3, 4:26 PM CT
Patriots coach Bill Belichick said he expects Tom Brady to be ready to go against the Chiefs in Week 1, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Brady was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, and barring any setbacks should be starting against the Chiefs week 1.
Watson misses practiceWednesday 9/3, 4:18 PM CT
Tight end Ben Watson missed Patriots practice Wednesday with a knee injury, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: We hope to know more as we near the season opener. Watson shouldn't be your only tight end option with his injury history.
Morris will start week 1Wednesday 9/3, 4:11 PM CT
Seattle coach Mike Holmgren confirmed that Maurice Morris will get the starting nod over Julius Jones in Week 1, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Our View: This looks to be an open competition between Maurice Morris and Julius Jones for carries. Look for each player's on field productivity to directly effect the workload.
Hester named starting receiver Wednesday 9/3, 3:40 PM CT
Devin Hester will join Brandon Lloyd as the Bears' starting receivers heading into Week 1 against the Colts, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Rashied Davis holds the slot role as the No. 3 option.

Our View: Mark Bradley and Marty Booker are left out of top trio. Only Hester merits fantasy consideration, and holds more value in leagues that award points for individual special teams.
Johnson done for 2008 Wednesday 9/3, 3:06 PM CT
Jeremi Johnson underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Wednesday, and will be placed on season-ending IR, according to NFL.com.

Our View: Starting running back Chris Perry will now have Daniel Coats as his lead blocker at fullback. If Coats struggles, then tight end Reggie Kelly could see time at fullback.
Johnson comments on BellWednesday 9/3, 3:01 PM CT
Rudi Johnson commented on Tatum Bell, who was caught stealing his bags from the Lions' locker room, according to MLive.com. Johnson said, "Bell took Underwear, socks, credit cards and money. He left my money clip with no money in it ($200 was reportedly missing). He should've taken the clip, too. It's quite stupid if you ask me. All of this happened after he got released and came in and got some stuff out of his locker. That's when he scooped the bags up, some real shyster, conniving stuff."

Our View: This incident could put Bell's playing future in jeopardy, although he reportedly traveled to Houston to audition for the Texans.
Brown returns to practice Wednesday 9/3, 2:54 PM CT
Reggie Brown returned to practice Wednesday, according to the Eagles' official website. He missed most of the preseason with a hamstring injury.

Our View: Brown's injury could return this season, but looks to be good to go for Week 1 against the Rams, whose secondary has also dealt with key injuries, namely to Fakhir Brown and Oshiomogho Atogwe. Barring a setback, Brown should be penciled in as a No. 2 receiver for Sunday.
Meriweather expects to play Wednesday 9/3, 2:27 PM CT
Brandon Meriweather returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since suffering a leg injury during the August 17th preseason game against the Buccaneers, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: Meriweather won't start but is expected to handle a bigger role this season. He is expected to play Sunday against the Chiefs.
Taylor questionable for Thursday Wednesday 9/3, 1:48 PM CT
Jason Taylor is listed as questionable for Thursday's opener against the division rival Giants, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: He worked with the team trainer's before Sunday's practice and experimented with assorted knee braces, but is seems unlikely he will be ready to play. If he does play, the team would use him sparingly with a rotation at left end, meaning he should not be penciled into fantasy lineups.
Camarillo could start? Wednesday 9/3, 1:38 PM CT
Greg Camarillo has reportedly moved ahead of Derek Hagan as the No. 2 receiver at practice today after Hagan dropped two passes in the preseason finale, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Our View: Camarillo would be worthy of a flier as a deep reserve if he does in fact start opposite Ted Ginn Jr. If quarterback Chad Pennington can move the ball efficiently, Canarillo could be a decent bye week filler.
Jackson to audition for Bengals Wednesday 9/3, 1:27 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Chad Jackson came to Cincinnati to audition for the Bengals, according to the Bengals' official website. Patriots' coach Bill Belichick said, "I think Chad is a good football player and I am sure he will play for somebody. It wouldn't surprise me if he played real well. It just didn't work out here, this year, at this point in time. I don't know any other way to put it."

Our View: Jackson headed to Cincinnati after leaving Oakland without a contract. If Jackson signed with the Bengals, he would battle Chris Henry for the No. 3 role at receiver.
Pope fills out practice squad Wednesday 9/3, 1:20 PM CT
Geoffrey Pope was added by Cincinnati and he will fill out their practice squad, according to the Bengals' official website.

Our View: He previously worked on the Giants' practice squad, and played in two playoff games with the team. He will hold no fantasy value.
Palmer to wear helmet shield Wednesday 9/3, 1:17 PM CT
Carson Palmer will wear a clear shield on his helmet in Week 1 against the Ravens to protect his broken nose, acccording to the Bengals' official website. Palmer sustained the injury 11 days ago against the Saints and said, "It's not as susceptible to being re-broken now that it's had a little over a week to heal. It kind of fit back in all the places where the cartilage needs to grow around."

Our View: Palmer has never worn a shield before, but doesn't believe his vision will be compromised.
Harris' injury more serious? Wednesday 9/3, 1:12 PM CT
An undisclosed source stated that the Bears' medical staff has expressed concern Tommie Harris' knee injury might be more serious than the team initially thought, but team officials rejected that idea Tuesday night, according the Chicago Sun-Times. It was pointed out that similar concerns were raised last season about Harris' health after he sprained his left knee during battle with the Cowboys, but he was in action for the next game September 30 at Detroit.

Our View: If Harris is forced to miss time, the top candidates to replace him would be Dusty Dvoracek, Anthony Adams, and rookie Marcus Harrison.
Graham wants new deal Wednesday 9/3, 1:02 PM CT
Shayne Graham indicated that he would like a new contract before the start of the new season, according to the Dayton Daily News. He said, "I think they want me here. I want to be here, and I don't see any reason why something won't be taken care of. The time frame? I don't know. But I definitely don't want it to be something that's going on during the season."

Our View: His agent (Rob Roche) and the Bengals are negotiating an extension for Graham, who ranks as the NFL's most accurate active kicker heading into 2008.
Steelers add McHugh Wednesday 9/3, 12:56 PM CT
Sean McHugh has been signed by the Steelers, according to the AP.

Our View: He will serve as the third tight end behind Heath Miller and Matt Spaeth. The former member of the Lions, Titans, and Packers will not hold any fantasy value in Pittsburgh.
Boller placed on IR Wednesday 9/3, 12:51 PM CT
Kyle Boller has been placed on the IR due to his shoulder injury (partially torn labrum), according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: His shoulder did not respond favorably to treatment, and the team decided to end his season. Todd Bouman fills his spot on the roster, and is set to back up rookie starter Joe Flacco this weekend.
Houshmandzadeh practices Wednesday 9/3, 12:28 PM CT
T.J. Houshmandzadeh practiced Wednesday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: He had been slowed by a hamstring ailment through training camp, but it appears that Houshmandzadeh should be good to go against Baltimore in Week 1.
Perry appreciates chance to start Wednesday 9/3, 12:24 PM CT
Chris Perry appreciates the opportunity to start for the Bengals, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He said, "It's football. I've done it before, wanted to do it for a while, but things happened. Now it's here, and I've got to take advantage of it. Nobody wants to be a backup. I don't know anybody here who wants to be a backup. Everybody wants to be a starter and perform well. Yeah, this is what I wanted." He added, "I'm just the starting running back for the Bengals on opening day. I don't think I'm any better than the guys behind me or anything like that; I'm still looking in my rear-view mirror. I still have motivation. I haven't done anything yet."

Our View: Perry is the best pass-catcher among the running backs on the Bengals' roster, and will get his first test to prove he deserves to be the starter this weekend at Baltimore.
Chad Ocho Cinco practicesWednesday 9/3, 12:19 PM CT
Chad Johnson practiced Wednesday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: He is confident he is fully recovered from his shoulder injury, and looks fit to start in Week 1 against Baltimore.
Galloway ready for Week 1 Wednesday 9/3, 12:14 PM CT
Joey Galloway was forced to miss all of the preseason due to a groin injury but he deems himself ready to go for Sunday's opener against the Saints, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View: This is good news for the Buccaneers, as well as fantasy owners who have Galloway, as he has a track record of playing well against the Saints.
Anderson will practice today Wednesday 9/3, 11:23 AM CT
Derek Anderson, who is recovering from a mild concussion, is expected to participate in today's practice, according to the Browns' official website. Braylon Edwards is also going to practice and Coach Romeo Crennel said, "They looked decent Monday (Anderson and Edwards). They weren't as a sharp as they could have been. But hopefully they'll get a little sharper as the week goes along."

Our View: As long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks through the rest of the week, Anderson should be cleared to play Week 1 against Dallas.
Lewis expected to practice today Wednesday 9/3, 11:18 AM CT
Jamal Lewis is expected to practice today, according to the Browns' official website. He has been dealing with a hamstring injury and coach Romeo Crennel said, "He'll be out there. He'll be listed as limited, so we'll see what he can do. The more he can do, the more we'll give him to do."

Our View: Lewis looks to be a good bet to play in Week 1 against Dallas, assuming he gets through Wednesday's practice without a problem.
Bryant named starter Wednesday 9/3, 11:13 AM CT
Antonio Bryant has nailed down a starting spot at receiver with the Buccaneers, according to the St. Petersburg Times. He will start opposite Joey Galloway.

Our View: Bryant is an intriguing player to consider as a fantasy reserve, as the Buccaneers lack strong options at receiver beyond the aging Galloway, and Bryant racked up 1,009 receiving yards with the Browns back in 2005.
Branch isn't ready, despite reports Wednesday 9/3, 10:45 AM CT
Deion Branch isn't ready to play in Week 1 despite reports that suggested he would be, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: He won't play in the opener, but is getting close. He is recovering from ACL surgery, and most of the process at this point involves rebuilding his strength and stamina.
Boldin changes tune Wednesday 9/3, 10:39 AM CT
Anquan Boldin was previously displeased with his contract and not on good terms with coach Ken Whisenhunt, but he has now changed his tune, according to the Arizona Republic. He said, "It ain't worth it, man. My teammates work too hard, and I know I'm a big part of the process with this program. If I held out or did anything like that, I'd be letting them down."

Our View: Boldin is in good spirits and working his way back onto the right side of the staff, namely Whisenhunt. Boldin likely slipped in fantasy drafts due to his feud with the team, but owners that scooped him up look to be rewarded with another strong campaign from him.
Johnson ready to lead Lions? Wednesday 9/3, 10:32 AM CT
Rudi Johnson was cut by the Bengals due to a nagging hamstring ailment but he is ready to move on and feels he can power the Lions' running attack, according to the Detroit News. He said, "My role is to learn the playbook. That is what I am here to do. I have to learn the schemes and the terminology." He also claims he's healthy and ready to play in Sunday's season opener against Atlanta, and he added, "I have been monitoring the hamstring to make sure it's ready for when the bullets start flying. I am making sure I am ready for the season opener."

Our View: Johnson is expected to back up rookie Kevin Smith initially, but should see an expanded role when he gets comfortable within the Lions' offense and gets back up to speed physically. All Kevin Smith owners should attempt to "handcuff" Johnson on their rosters.
Bell to audition for Texans Wednesday 9/3, 9:53 AM CT
Tatum Bell has reportedly flown to Houston (without Rudi Johnson's bags) for an audition with the Texans, according to the Detroit News. Before leaving Detroit Bell said, "I had a good camp. I was pretty much solid and was consistent but it did not translate in the game for me. This is no hard feelings. I am going to go out and work."

Our View: Alex Gibbs is an assistant head coach with the Texans, and previously worked with Bell in Denver as line coach. He would benefit from joining Houston, but not to the point where he would be counted on to make a solid fantasy impact.
Who will replace Faulk in Week 1? Wednesday 9/3, 9:46 AM CT
Kevin Faulk is suspended for the first game of the season (marijuana possession) and Sammy Morris, LaMont Jordan, and even fullback Heath Evans are all candidates to replace him as the situational passing back, according to the Boston Globe. Heath Evans said, "There is no replacing a Kevin Faulk, but he's not here, so the focus is who are the guys that are here. That's not to sound harsh because obviously we'd love for No. 33 to be here, but at the end of the day, we've got four backs to get the job done. Through coaching and the scheme that these coaches will put in place, we'll find a way to get it done."

Our View: Starter Laurence Maroney could also absorb some of Faulk's snaps, adding to his fantasy value for the opener against the Chiefs.
Childress has faith in Hicks Wednesday 9/3, 8:56 AM CT
The team will be without Bryant McKinnie for the first four games of the season, but coach Brad Childress has faith and confidence in Artis Hicks at left tackle, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View: Hicks made 49 starts at left tackle with the Eagles, but he is considered to be merely adequate as a pro, and fantasy owners should be concerned about Tarvaris Jackson's blindside, even though Childress believes he will be fine.
Mendenhall to return kickoffs Wednesday 9/3, 8:48 AM CT
Rashard Mendenhall will return kickoffs, but coach Mike Tomlin is unsure how much action he will see at running back Sunday against Houston, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Tomlin said, "We're looking at his preparation this week, his attention to detail in terms of how he executes his assignments, and his level of ball security. That process will be ongoing. That's what it's about. We'll see as we get closer to game time."

Our View: The Steelers initially planned on featuring Mendenhall significantly this season, and even in the same backfield as Willie Parker in some packages, but the rookie aggravated the team with poor ball security in the preseason. His fumbling issues should bode well for Parker's production, namely early in the season.
Polamalu ready for opener Wednesday 9/3, 8:42 AM CT
Troy Polamalu is ready for Sunday's opener against the Texans, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Polamalu missed time while dealing with a hamstring strain, and coach Mike Tomlin said, "We're just going to toss him in. That's the nature of this thing. Training camp is important; preseason is important. He missed a bunch of that due to injury. But we play on Sunday and he's going to be a part of it. Hopefully he gets his legs under him quickly."

Our View: Polamalu could be rusty in the opener, but the team has faith in him to start. He is worth employing in larger IDP leagues.
Timmons to be involved Wednesday 9/3, 8:34 AM CT
Larry Foote will start at inside linebacker, but Lawrence Timmons will still see plenty of action in the 3-4 base defense as well as in nickel packages, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Coach Mike Tomlin said, "The thing is with those guys we're blessed with great depth at the linebacker position (also including James Farrior). I couldn't care less who runs out of the tunnel. That's irrelevant. What is relevant is that those three play football for us because they're playmakers. You'll see that on Sunday."

Our View: Timmons has the skills to be a playmaker in the NFL, and could hold favorable value in the sacks and turnovers department as a deep reserve in IDP leagues.
Steelers comment on Andre DavisWednesday 9/3, 8:29 AM CT
The Steelers will battle the Texans this weekend and commented on dangerous return man Andre Davis, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Davis returned three kickoffs for scores last season and coach Mike Tomlin said, "We're familiar with this guy in the AFC North from Cleveland. He's got great straight-line speed. He's fearless. He hits the hole long-striding and that's why he generates plays."

Our View: Davis holds solid fantasy value in leagues that feature scoring for return men, and the Steelers will draw a tough assigment in the opener. Along with the three scores in 2007, Davis also averaged 30.3 yards per return.
Wilson expected to join Texans Wednesday 9/3, 8:05 AM CT
Eugene Wilson is expected to sign a deal with the Texans after being released by the Buccaneers, according to the Houston Chronicle. Offensive lineman Brandon Frye has been placed on waivers to make room for Wilson on the roster.

Our View: Wilson won two Super Bowls with the Patriots and would provide versatility to play either safety or cornerback. The Texans only kept four cornerbacks on their 53-man roster.
Anderson talks with Rams Wednesday 9/3, 7:54 AM CT
Willie Anderson had discussions with the Rams, but no visit has been scheduled as of yet, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Anderson would provide solid depth and insurance for Orlando Pace, who is coming off reconstructive shoulder surgery.
Knight could be inactive Thursday? Wednesday 9/3, 7:29 AM CT
Sammy Knight could be inactive for Thursday's opener against the Redskins as the team has several better options at safety at their disposal, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: Those options are James Butler, Michael Johnson, and rookie Kenny Phillips. Knight made 93 tackles with Jacksonville in 2007, but the team is seemingly looking to go younger at the position.
