Faulk pleads no contestTuesday 7/8, 10:10 PM CT
The Boston Globe reports that Kevin Faulk pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession.

Our View: At this point, there is no word whether or not he will face suspension from the NFL.
Henry faces retrialTuesday 7/8, 5:31 PM CT
Chris Henry will face a retrial next week for an assault charge after allegedly punching an 18-year-old in the face, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: The same article states that he could likely face immediate reinstatement to the NFL if he is proven innocent.
Vick files for bankruptcy protection Tuesday 7/8, 1:30 PM CT
Michael Vick has filed for bankruptcy protection, according to the Sports Network. Vick filed Chapter 11 papers in U.S. Bankruptcy Court on Monday, claiming to owe between $10 and $50 million to numerous creditors. The debt includes a $3.75 million pro-rated signing bonus that the Falcons are attempting to get back.

Our View: After pleading guilty last year to supporting a Virginia-based dogfighting ring, Vick was subsequently suspended indefinitely by the NFL without pay and lost all his major corporate sponsors.
Second suspect held in Walker case Tuesday 7/8, 12:47 PM CT
Las Vegas police have indicated they have made a second arrest in the robbery and beating of Javon Walker, according to the AP. Police say 40-year-old Deshawn Thomas was arrested Monday in Las Vegas on kidnapping, robbery and conspiracy charges, and is accused of beating and robbing Walker and leaving him unconscious on a side street near the Las Vegas Strip.

Our View: Hopefully this will become old news by the time the new season kicks off. The Raiders are counting on Walker to carry their aerial attack as their top target this season.
Naanee gets expected role Tuesday 7/8, 12:41 PM CT
Legedu Naanee will be officially considered a wide receiver with the Chargers this season and is expected to see a larger role, according to Pro Football Weekly. Naanee commented that the Chargers might install some special offensive packages for him, and added that they want to get him more snaps at receiver, and plan to use him in creative ways.

Our View: Naanee reportedly has looked impressive in offseason workouts, and head coach Norv Turner is pleased with the 24-year-old’s progress, who was used mainly on special teams in 2007. He should enjoy a boost in production, but won't likely be "fantasy worthy," while fighting with Antonio Gates, Vincent Jackson, Chris Chambers, Buster Davis and Ladainian Tomlinson for Philip Rivers' attention in the passing game.
Jordan on Patriots' radar? Tuesday 7/8, 12:08 PM CT
LaMont Jordan is reportedly on the Patriots' radar, according to ESPN. The Bears and Saints were previously believed to be interested in Jordan as well.

Our View: Jordan would see little action in New England behind starter Laurence Maroney and pass-catching specialist Kevin Faulk, as well as Sammy Morris.
Bills ink rookie Johnson Tuesday 7/8, 11:56 AM CT
The Bills have inked seventh-round pick Steve Johnson (Kentucky), according to Bills.com. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Our View: The rookie receiver has good size at 6-2 202 pounds, and had a solid spring through team OTA sessions and minicamp. He is expected to make the club as the fifth receiver.
Pennington working on mechanics Tuesday 7/8, 11:50 AM CT
With training camp on the horizon, Chad Pennington is working on changing mechanical issues with his throwing motion, according to the Sporting News. He is looking to improve his consistency on his throws, namely his velocity.

Our View: He is trying to hold off young gun Kellen Clemems for the starting gig with the Jets this season, and should be a tight battle through training camp.
Legal trouble continues for MarshallTuesday 7/8, 11:44 AM CT
The Denver Post reports that Brandon Marshall was ticketed on June 12 for making an illegal lane change, according to Denver County Court records. Marshall was stopped on northbound Interstate-25 between Broadway and Santa Fe Drive and was also ticketed for not having his driver's license or proof of insurance.

Our View: Marshall is scheduled to be arraigned on July 24, according to the records.
Haynesworth update Tuesday 7/8, 10:41 AM CT
Albert Haynesworth's agent (Chad Speck) indicated that he expects to talk with the Titans again this week as the July 15 deadline approaches regarding a decision on his client's contract situation, according to the Nashville City Paper. Haynesworth, who was dealt the franchise tag back in February, has one week left to sign a long-term deal or play for the franchise tender of $7.25 million.

Our View: Speck is trying to get the Titans to include certain incentives in the tender that under the right situation could allow Haynesworth to avoid the franchise tag again in 2009. He is looking for a long-term deal.
Anderson working on mobility Tuesday 7/8, 10:20 AM CT
Derek Anderson is working on improving his mobility, which is viewed as the weakest part of his game, according to ESPN. Anderson is currently working out at a SPARQ (speed, power, agility, reaction, quickness) training facility in Oregon, that focuses on improving his mobility.

Our View: Second-year OC Rob Chudzinski is installing more rollouts and screens into the Browns' playbook this season to give opposing defenses different looks. That will require Anderson, who is a traditional pocket passer, to be more fleet of foot to execute the additional plays. He was only sacked 14 times in 2007, and that number could potentially decrease even lower this season.
Fowler will be given chance to talk Tuesday 7/8, 9:46 AM CT
Ryan Fowler has denied using performance enhancing drugs, and the NFL is willing to give him a chance to state his case, according to the Tennessean.

Our View: He is facing a four-game suspension from the league.
Troupe says practices are intense Tuesday 7/8, 8:35 AM CT
Ben Troupe noted the differences between playing in Tennessee and Tampa Bay, according to the Tampa Tribune. Troupe said, "The atmosphere, the players, and the level of focus and intensity. I mean, take nothing away from Tennessee. I thank God I was with them for four years. But it's the level of intensity down here in Tampa. Everyone jells with one another, we know that we are going to need everybody."

Our View: Troupe is projected to serve as backup to Alex Smith, but the Buccaneers like to feature two-tight end sets, and Troupe has a good chance to be productive and make a favorable impact with the club this season.
Cowboys shopping for backup QB Tuesday 7/8, 8:27 AM CT
The Cowboys are looking for a backup quarterback, and Chris Simms has been mentioned, according to the Star-Telegram. The current plan is to have Brad Johnson serve as Tony Romo's primary backup, but the team would like to upgrade. Simms' name continues to circulate around Valley Ranch, and he reportedly mentioned to friends he would be interested in playing for Dallas.

Our View: Johnson will be 40 in September, and Simms could be released by Tampa Bay at some point before the regular season. There is not a good selection of veteran free agent quarterbacks for the Cowboys to pick from, and Simms still has some upside.
Davis inked Tuesday 7/8, 7:05 AM CT
The Steelers have inked third-round rookie Bruce Davis (UCLA) to a three-year contract, according to ProFootballTalk.com. Davis will receive a signing bonus of around $500,000, with base salaries of $285,000, $385,000, and $470,000 over the three years of the deal .

Our View: Davis was a force as a defensive end in college, but the Steelers could move him to OLB due to a lack of size and bulk (6-2 240 pounds).
