NEWSBREAKERS NBA
Rush signs with PhiladelphiaMonday 7/28, 11:41 PM CT
The Miami Herald reports that the 76ers and Kareem Rush have reached a deal.

Our View: Rush solves a problem for Philly - perimeter shooting. he will likely be turned to when they are in most need of hitting some perimeter shots. They were last in the league in three-point field goal percentage last season. The 27-year-old has averaged 6.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game with the Pacers, Bobcats, and Lakers over his career.
Kwame signed by PistonsMonday 7/28, 6:45 PM CT
The Detroit Pistons have reached an agreement with former No. 1 overall pick, Kwame Brown according to the Sports Ticker. The contract is for $8 million over two seasons. Brown, 26, has career averages of 7.5 points and 5.7 rebounds in 404 games.

Our View: A fresh start on a solid team should help Kwame a great deal. The Pistons had a need for a backup center and that appears to be where Kwame fits in. As long as he comes off the bench, he does not hold any fantasy value.
Davis signs with ClippersMonday 7/28, 6:28 PM CT
The Clippers have signed journeyman Ricky Davis to an undisclosed contract according to the Sports Ticker. He averaged 13.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals last season with Miami.

Our View: Davis, 28, is still a reliable player but it remains to be seen in what capacity he will be used on the Clippers. As a starter, he holds some fantasy value.
Gomes re-signs with MinnesotaMonday 7/28, 5:27 PM CT
Ryan Gomes and the Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to a multi-year deal according to the AP.

Our View: Gomes, 25, averaged 12.6 points and 5.8 rebounds in 2007-08, a year after joining the Timberwolves as a part of the trade with the Boston Celtics for Kevin Garnett. It remains to be seen how much playing time he will seen with Kevin Love in town.
Ivey inks with Sixers Monday 7/28, 3:23 PM CT
Royal Ivey has inked a deal with the Sixers, according to the AP. Exact terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Our View: Ivey is a tough defensive-minded pro, and should fit in well as a bench performer with the Sixers. His fantasy value will remain limited.
Balkman dealt to Denver Monday 7/28, 3:15 PM CT
Renaldo Balkman has been dealt to the Nuggets from the Knicks in exchange for guard Taurean Green, swingman Bobby Jones and a second-round draft pick in 2010, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Our View: Balkman was the 20th pick of the 2006 draft and will provide a solid defensive presence up front for the Nuggets, but may not provide much in the scoring department.
Balkman going to Denver?Monday 7/28, 11:49 AM CT
The Knicks and Nuggets are discussing a trade that would land forward Renaldo Balkman in Denver, Newsday reports. Point guard Taurean Green and forward Bobby Jones would move to New York.

Our View: The Nuggets are in need of frontcourt help after trading Marcus Camby and letting Eduardo Najera leave via free agency. Balkman would bring hustle and could see a notable uptick in minutes. At best, he might turn into something like Udonis Haslem.
Krstic could move to RussiaMonday 7/28, 11:45 AM CT
Center Nenad Krstic could be headed to Russia. The 25-year-old big man has a two-year contract in place with a Russian club, and he will sign it if the Nets are unable to complete a sign-and-trade NBA deal by the end of Monday, the New York Post reports.

Our View: A major knee injury cost Krstic huge chunks of the last two seasons, but he remains a promising center with good skills on the offensive end. As with Josh Childress, this would be a decent-sized blow to the NBA, and it would weaken the fantasy center rankings a little bit.
Pistons talked about SmithMonday 7/28, 11:41 AM CT
The Pistons had talks with the Hawks about restricted free agent Josh Smith, but Atlanta was asking for too much, a source informs the Detroit Free Press. The discussion ended a few weeks ago.

Our View: These talks apparently came before Josh Childress bolted for Greece, and the asking price for Smith may be even higher now. The Hawks may still move this talented young forward, and the move will likely be a sign-and-trade.
James practices Monday 7/28, 10:28 AM CT
LeBron James practiced Monday with Team USA in Macau even though he is still nursing a sprained right ankle, according to ESPN. James is in good spirits and said, "Every time we step onto the court, we know we have the talent and we know we have the strength to go out and be the best team on the court. The chemistry right now is really good."

Our View: His knee ailment is minor and he is expected to be recovered in time for the start of the Olympics in August.
Biedrins remains with Warriors Monday 7/28, 7:07 AM CT
As expected, Andris Biedrins agreed to a six-year deal with the Warriors worth $63 million, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Biedrins will remain in the NBA after several European clubs targeted him. Biedrins is among the best shooters among big men in the NBA, and notably led the league last season by hitting 63% of his shots.
