Smith is Bristol's top rookie

Aric Almirola beat the rookie class in the Sharpie 500, but not by much. Regan Smith finished one spot behind him in 14th.

Our View: That was his sixth Rookie of the Race honor and his second top-15, but none of the official rookies have cracked the top 10 yet—24 races into the season.

Almirola beats rookies again

For the third time this season in six starts, Aric Almirola finished better than any of the Rookie of the Year (ROTY) contenders with his 13th-place result in the Sharpie 500.

Our View: He's not going to displace Mark Martin next year in terms of competitiveness in Cup, but Almirola is going to deserve a long look then and each time he takes the track later this season.
