Hornish gets new chief

Travis Geisler will immediately replace Chris Carrier as the crew chief for Sam Hornish , according to NASCAR.com.

Our View: Geisler was a race engineer for Ryan Newman, so the ramification here is two-fold. It is a way to improved Hornish's results, but also points to Newman's lame duck status.

No. 39, not 4 for Newman

Ryan Newman will race the No. 39 next year instead of the No. 4, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: The No. 39 has more significance to Newman since it was the number of the car in which he won his first USAC race. This also allows Morgan-McClure Motorsports to retain the option of using their traditional number.

Schrader in HoF entry at Bristol

According to SceneDaily.com, Ken Schrader will replace Brad Coleman this week at Bristol in the No. 96 Hall of Fame entry.

Our View: Coleman is expected to return, but with a large entry list and probably in anticipation of a ROTY effort next year, this is a good race to place a veteran behind the wheel.
