NEWSBREAKERS NASCAR
Truex running in 10 straightThursday 7/17, 11:07 PM CT
Martin Truex Jr. needed a good run to partly overcome a 150-point penalty imposed by NASCAR for a rules infraction at Daytona. He got it, with a ninth in the LifeLock.com 400.

Our View: That was also the 10th consecutive race in which he was running at the end of the race—and during that span, he's finished among the top-10 four times.
Edwards snaps nine-race lead lap streakThursday 7/17, 10:21 PM CT
Before breaking his splitter at Chicagoland, Carl Edwards had been running on the lead lap in nine consecutive races. He finished the LifeLock.com 400 one lap off the pace in 32nd.

Our View: In order to finish first, a driver must first finish—but equally important, he must finish on the lead lap. Look for Edwards to rebound at Indy, however.
Ragan doubles down for first timeThursday 7/17, 5:51 PM CT
David Ragan earned consecutive top-10s in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series for the first time in his career with a fifth at Daytona and an eighth at Chicagoland.

Our View: As a mid-cap driver, Ragan has been one of the greatest values in recent weeks and the sophomore continues to improve.
N'Wide: 19-year-old Cassill has first anniversaryThursday 7/17, 5:18 PM CT
This weekend, Landon Cassill will return to the site of his first Nationwide start. Last year, only two weeks after his 18th birthday, he qualified sixth at Gateway but crashed and finished 32nd at the halfway mark.

Our View: With all the hype surrounding Joey Logano, it is easy to overlook the other Young Guns, but Cassill has two top-10 finishes in his last five races.
Ky Busch to run Kentucky Truck raceThursday 7/17, 12:07 PM CT
Kyle Busch will skip this week's Nationwide race at Gateway to run in the Craftsman Truck Series event at Kentucky instead.

Our View: Busch has five Nationwide victories, but only two in the Truck series, so he is looking to even the score. In NASCAR's Big Three divisions, he has 14 combined victories and is a good value in absolutely any game.
N'Wide: CJM partners with JGRThursday 7/17, 11:58 AM CT
In 2009, CJM Racing will switch from Chevrolets to become a Toyota development team. They, and driver Jason Keller, will receive support from Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR).

Our View: As the premiere Toyota team, Gibbs is assuming a leadership role—and that is part of the reason why the organization has been so successful in 2008.
Carpentier uses mental coachThursday 7/17, 10:10 AM CT
Patrick Carpentier has been able to keep his positive attitude in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series due in part to the efforts of mental strength coach Dr. Terry Lyles, who is teaching him how to improve confidence by building up the left side of his brain.

Our View: This is a far cry from the days of the good old boy, but the modern NASCAR superstar will use anything at his disposal.
N'Wide: Leffler gets new chiefThursday 7/17, 9:15 AM CT
With Paul Wolfe leaving Braun Racing to return to Fitz Motorsports, Jason Leffler has a new crew chief. Todd Lohse will assume those duties.

Our View: The pairing is timely. Lohse led Leffler to victory last year at O'Reilly Raceway Park last year, which is the next race on the schedule after Gateway.
