Jerricho Cotchery, WR Sunday 10/12, 4:58 PM CT
Jerricho Cotchery caught eight passes for 85 yards against the Bengals on Sunday.

Our View: Cotchery was unable to find the end zone, but it was still a good game for him, especially for PPR owners.
Thomas Jones, RB Sunday 10/12, 3:46 PM CT
Thomas Jones had 17 carries for 65 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and added three receptions for 13 yards and a score as a receiver on Sunday.

Our View: In one game Jones had more touchdowns than all of last season. He only had one score this season coming into the game, so we shouldn't expect many more of these performances.
Bryan Thomas, LB Sunday 10/12, 1:23 PM CT
Bryan Thomas limped off the field near the end of the second half during Sunday's game.

Our View: Thomas has four sacks this season, so the Jets' defense could have problems if he is unable to return.
Laveranues Coles, WR Sunday 10/12, 11:50 AM CT
Laveranues Coles is active on Sunday, as expected.

Our View: He is a solid start against Cincinnati's defense.
Mike Nugent, K Sunday 10/12, 11:24 AM CT
Jets inactives: QB Brett Ratliff (3rd), QB Erik Ainge, K Mike Nugent, WR David Clowney, CB Justin Miller, G Will Montgomery, LB Marques Murrell, DT Kareem Brown.

Our View: Jay Feely remains the Jets' starter at kicker with Mike Nugent (thigh) out.
Laveranues Coles, WR Saturday 10/11, 3:37 PM CT
Laveranues Coles got more involved with the passing offense because he went to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and told him he had more to offer, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Coles was somewhat invisible until breaking out with a three touchdown performance against the Cardinals Week 5. He had a sore thigh this week, but should be ready to play against the Bengals in a fairly favorable matchup.
Kris Jenkins, DT Saturday 10/11, 3:34 PM CT
Jets nose tackle Kris Jenkins has been dominant in the team's 3-4 defense because he uses his impressive girth to eat up offensive blockers, freeing others to get to the quarterback, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Jenkins only has one sack and 12 tackles for himself on the year, but he clearly holds value in other places. He is very talented, but had off-field issues, which is why Carolina traded him.
Laveranues Coles, WR Friday 10/10, 5:10 PM CT
Laveranues Coles is questionable for Week 6 with a thigh injury but is still expected to start, according to NFL.com.

Our View: The Jets will be well-rested while coming off their bye, and Coles should be penciled into fantasy lineups against a Bengals' pass defense that has surrendered six scores through the air.
Vernon Gholston, LB Thursday 10/9, 6:51 PM CT
The AP reports that Vernon Gholston is still trying to grasp the Jets' defense. “I just looked over the plays that I’ve had and kind of evaluate myself a little bit, see the things I need to do better and try to get a better grasp of the concepts on defense,” Gholston said Thursday. “We put in a lot of new stuff over the bye week, so I was just trying to get a handle on that kind of stuff.”

Our View: Gholston was a defensive end with the Buckeyes and set the school’s single-season record with 14 sacks last year. The Jets are transforming Gholston into a 3-4 outside linebacker, and the transition has taken lots of getting used to. Gholston has one tackle on defense, but had four special-teams tackles in the Jets’ 56-35 victory over Arizona in Week 4. The effort earned Gholston the Jets’ special teams player of the week award.
Damien Woody, C Thursday 10/9, 12:34 PM CT
Damien Woody missed his second straight day of practice Thursday due to a cold, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: He is still expected to man his starting post at right tackle this weekend against Cincinnati, which is good news for Brett Favre and the Jets' offense.
Abram Elam, S Thursday 10/9, 12:31 PM CT
Abram Elam will start at strong safety this weekend while Eric Smith serves his one-game suspension, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: Elam is capable of solid production, as he reached at least eight tackles four times in 2007, and ranks as a solid sleeper for this weekend against the pass-oriented Bengals' offense.
Eric Smith, S Wednesday 10/8, 8:31 AM CT
Eric Smith has lost his appeal and will serve his one-game suspension Sunday against the Bengals, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: He was suspended last week after his brutal, helmet-to-helmet hit September 28 on Cardinals' star receiver Anquan Boldin. Abram Elam, Hank Poteat, and David Barrett are the top candidates to replace Smith this weekend.
Justin Miller, CB Wednesday 10/8, 8:22 AM CT
Justin Miller has been plagued by setbacks which have been preventing him from returning from a dislocated toe he sustained in the preseason, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: When he does return, he will have to battle Dwight Lowery to get his cornerback job back. He will also have to compete with Leon Washington for his spot on special teams.
Jay Feely, K Tuesday 10/7, 6:20 PM CT
Jets head coach Eric Mangini announced that Jay Feely will once again be the Jets kicker in Week 6, according to CBSSportsline.com.

Our View: Mike Nugent continues to struggle with a hip injury and will be out again this week. Feely has filled in nicely connecting on 4-of-6 field goal attempts and is perfect on extra points.
David Clowney, WR Monday 10/6, 3:31 PM CT
David Clowney is making favorable progress in his recovery from a broken collarbone, but is still wearing a red no-contact jersey in practice, and is not likely to be ready for Sunday's battle against Cincinnati, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: It is encouraging that he is practicing on a limited basis, but is not yet to get hit and contribute. When he does return, he could push Brad Miller for playing time.
Mike Nugent, K Monday 10/6, 3:26 PM CT
Mike Nugent is not expected to be ready to play in Week 6 as he is still hindered by his thigh injury, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: The Jets are coming off a bye, but Nugent needs more time to recover. Jay Feely looks to remain the Jets' kicker for at least one more week.
Jesse Chatman, RB Monday 10/6, 2:43 PM CT
Jesse Chatman has been activated by the Jets after serving a four-game suspension, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: Chatman will serve as the third running back behind starter Thomas Jones and primary backup Leon Washington, but Chatman is physical with solid size, and could potentially work in short-yardage and snipe some goal-line scores, giving him some fantasy value for deeper leagues.
Eric Smith, S Monday 10/6, 12:21 PM CT
Eric Smith is appealing his one-game suspension and $50,000 fine for his brutal hit on Cardinals' star receiver Anquan Boldin in Week 4, according to Newsday.

Our View: If Smith's suspension is upheld, Jesse Chatman, who is returning from his four-game suspenion, would take Smith's roster spot for this week against Cincinnati.
Abram Elam, S Thursday 10/2, 11:53 AM CT
Abram Elam will start at safety for Jets in place of the suspended Eric Smith, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Our View: Elam was mainly a special teams player who has five tackles on the season. Smith was suspended for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin.
Brett Favre, QB Wednesday 10/1, 11:57 PM CT
After a six touchdown pass day against Arizona, Brett Favre has been named the AFC offensive player of the week, according to Gang Green Nation.

Our View: Favre has been everything that the Jets wanted plus some. In 2008 Favre has thrown 12 touchdown passes and is completing 70 percent of his passes.
Mike Nugent, K Wednesday 10/1, 12:08 PM CT
Mike Nugent missed Wednesday's practice, according to the Star-Ledger. He has missed three games with a thigh injury.

Our View: The Jets have a bye in Week 5 to give him extra time to recover.
David Clowney, WR Wednesday 10/1, 12:04 PM CT
David Clowney returned to practice after breaking his collarbone in the preseason, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: He was the Jets' leading receiver in the preseason and showed solid ability to stretch the field. He is worth a look as a flier in case he pushes Brad Miller for playing time.
