Newsbreakers
November 17, 2008
Patriots rookie cornerback Terrence Wheatley has been put on injured reserve, meaning his season is over, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Wheatley recently had surgery on his left wrist, so the move was not unexpected. It was a mostly forgettable rookie year for the 2008 second-round pick.

Terrence Wheatley actually underwent surgery on his dislocated wrist last week, a fact that wasn't previously divulged, according to the Denver Post.

Our View:Wheatley is a non-factor in terms of fantasy value, but this is yet another example of the cloak and dagger routine of the Patriots. He has not yet been placed on the IR.
November 13, 2008
Rookie cornerback Terrence Wheatley will not play for the Patriots on Thursday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:New England's second-round pick is battling a wrist injury. He has had an up and down season, but mostly it's been down, as he has just two tackles on the year.
November 11, 2008
Corner back Terrence Wheatley did not practice with the Patriots on Tuesday because of a wrist injury, according to the Providence Journal.

Our View:There is no further news on the status of Wheatley. The corner back doesn't hold any fantasy value.
November 8, 2008
Patriots cornerback Terrence Wheatley will not play Week 10 due to a wrist injury, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Wheatley was a second-round pick who had not performed exceptionally well this season. He has just two tackles on the year and was a non-factor in IDP leagues.
November 5, 2008
Terrence Wheatley's playing status for Week 10 is yet to be determined, according to the Boston Globe. He left Sunday's game with a left wrist injury and coach Bill Belichick said, "They're looking at it; they did some stuff yesterday and we'll see how that comes out. I don't have any more to add at this point."

Our View:The second-round rookie has the physical skills to hold up well in man-to-man coverage, but still needs to work on his technique and consistency. He won't be missed as a backup if unable to go against Buffalo.
October 2, 2008
Patriots rookie cornerback Terrence Wheatley is off to a disappointing start for the team, and cannot seem to get on the field, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Wheatley has nary a tackle this season, and has even been inactive for one game. Fourth-round pick Jonathan Wilhite has not been much better, but he is contributing on special teams.
July 22, 2008
The New England Patroits have reached terms on a rookie contract with 2nd-round draft pick cornerback Terrence Wheatley , according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Wheatley started 28 games in four seasons at Colorado and had 14 interceptions, two for touchdowns. He is in a large group of players with a chance to replace star cornerback Asante Samuel, who left for Philadelphia as a free agent. The other starting cornerback, Ellis Hobbs, is coming off offseason surgeries on his left shoulder and for a sports hernia. Wheatley, the 62nd overall pick in the draft, also is a return threat, having gained 1,350 yards on kickoff returns in college. This leaves top draft pick defensive end Jerod Mayo as the only unsigned rookie in New England. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

If there was a clear standout from the New England Patriots’ rookie camp, it was corner Terrence Wheatley, a second-rounder out of Colorado, according to the Sporting News. Wheatley looked like the fastest player on the field, broke up a number of passes during one-on-one coverage drills, and was quick and fluid turning his hips out of his back pedal.

Our View:The Patriots may have found themselves a steal in Wheatley, who is considered a shutdown corner with speed. After sitting out the entire 2005 season following surgery to repair a broken wrist, Wheatley established himself as one of the most talented corners in the Big 12 conference during the last two years, and he's also a talented kickoff returner.
