Vernon Gholston hasn't seen much playing time and is still looking for his first sack this year, according to the NY Daily News. Coach Eric Mangini isn't worried about the sixth overall pick yet. "When I'm going to be concerned is when we're not making progress, and when we're not seeing him get better, week-in, week-out," Mangini said. "That, to me, is a concern."

Our View:Gholston was viewed by many as a boom or bust type pick, and so far it looks like he may end up being the latter. Give him some time, though, as even those that predicted big things for him knew he was raw.

The AP reports that Vernon Gholston is still trying to grasp the Jets' defense. “I just looked over the plays that I’ve had and kind of evaluate myself a little bit, see the things I need to do better and try to get a better grasp of the concepts on defense,” Gholston said Thursday. “We put in a lot of new stuff over the bye week, so I was just trying to get a handle on that kind of stuff.”

Our View:Gholston was a defensive end with the Buckeyes and set the school’s single-season record with 14 sacks last year. The Jets are transforming Gholston into a 3-4 outside linebacker, and the transition has taken lots of getting used to. Gholston has one tackle on defense, but had four special-teams tackles in the Jets’ 56-35 victory over Arizona in Week 4. The effort earned Gholston the Jets’ special teams player of the week award.

Coach Eric Mangini says he is not overly concerned about the slow development of first round pick Vernon Gholston. "Guys develop differently," Mangini said. "There's no one set timeline that I've ever seen for a rookie. All he has to do is keep chipping away at it and keep making progress each week."

Our View:The number six overall pick has been a nonfactor in the first two games. He holds no fantasy value except for perhaps in deep keeper leagues.

Just as he was in training camp, Jets rookie outside linebacker Vernon Gholston is struggling, and was responsible for a penalty when he was the 12th man on the field, according to the New York Post.

Our View:Gholston has done absolutely nothing, so fantasy owners who selected him in IDP leagues hoping for a Shawne Merriman-esque start to his career should cut bait and look elsewhere.

Jets first-round selection Vernon Gholston has been among the biggest disappointments in training camp, and had a poor night in the team's final preseason game, with just three tackles in over 40 snaps, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Ghoston was supposed to come in and be a pass rusher on the outside for New York, but that has yet to happen. If you drafted him for depth in IDP leagues with the hope that he would put up a decent number of sacks, it doesn't look like that is in the forecast early on.
