49ers linebacker Patrick Willis did not practice with the team on Thursday due to an unspecified illness, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:Willis did not practice on Wednesday either due to a hip malady, but the team says he will play Sunday, which is obviously great news for IDP owners.

Patrick Willis continues to rack up the tackles in 2008. In the 49ers' 30-21 loss Willis recorded 14 tackles and a sack.

Our View:Willis has been huge for the 49ers defense this year. He has totaled 32 tackles so far and the sack was his first of the year.

Patrick Willis had to exit Sunday's game in the third quarter after suffering an injury to his right leg. He will undergo X-Rays.

Our View:This could be a potential huge loss for the Niners and IDP owners. Willis had seven tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown before leaving.

The 49ers have promoted Patrick Willis to a starting middle linebacker spot and Brandon Moore has been moved to a backup role, according to the Oakland Tribune. Derek Smith will be the team’s other inside linebacker in their 3-4 base defense. Even though some believed Mike Nolan would take it slow with the rookie, this move was inevitable because Willis was as good a defensive prospect as there was in this year’s draft. He has the skills to become an immediate factor in IDP leagues.

The 49ers signed first-round pick Patrick Willis to a five-year deal Sunday. The contract has a maximum value of $16.7 million, with $12 million in guaranteed money, according to the AP.
