Running back DeAngelo Williams rushed 20 times for 123 yards, caught one pass for 25 yards, and scored three touchdowns in the Week 5 win over the Chiefs.

Our View:The Chiefs barely bothered to show up on either side of the ball this Sunday. Williams scored from 10, 25 and 32 yards out, so it's not as if he was stealing goal line looks from Jonathan Stewart. The Panthers and Williams won't find life to be so easy every week.

Panthers starting running back DeAngelo Williams may lose carries to rookie Jonathan Stewart if he does not perform better soon, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Stewart has 145 rushing yards to Williams' 144, but in eight fewer carries. He also has three touchdowns to Williams' zero. The one thing that may separate them is that Williams is better as a receiver out of the backfield and has four catches, while Stewart has none. Still, it is becoming increasingly clear that Stewart will be the one garnering carries as the year rolls forward.

Although Jonathan Stewart carried the load in the second half of the Panthers Week 2 game, head coach John Fox said the DeAngelo Williams is still the starter. Fox told the Gaston Gazette that, "in my mind both backs are of starter ability and right now DeAngelo (Williams) as I see moving forward is the starter.

Our View:Stewart has outperformed Williams so far this year with 130 yards and a touchdown. Williams has rushed for 117 yards and no touchdowns so it seems like both running backs will be in that deadly, shared backfield for fantasy owners.

The starting running back role in Carolina was a hot topic of conversation for most of the summer. Would it be DeAngelo Williams or rookie Jonathan Stewart starting on opening Sunday? Williams carried the ball 18 times for 86 yards and added a reception for four yards to his total.

Our View:Stewart received plenty of work in the Panthers upset of the Chargers. The rookie recorded 10 carries for 53 yards in his professional debut.

Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette expects DeAngelo Williams to start Sunday's game against San Diego, and for rookie Jonathan Stewart to reach double digits in carries.

Our View:Williams enjoyed a strong training camp and preseason and is the preferred Panthers' back to employ in Week 1 against San Diego.
