Vince Young will have his jersey number retired at the University of Texas, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:Young was a national champion and one of the most productive players ever to come out of the University, and there is little doubt he deserves the honor.

Third-year quarterback Vince Young is on the hot seat this year, and will be learning a new offense for the third time in four seasons. The offensive rookie of the year in 2006 struggled in his second season throwing nine touchdown passes and 17 interceptions. Tennessee has a new offensive coordinator and new additions on both sides of the ball so expecting a repeat of a surprising 2007 campaign is optimistic at best.

Our View:How bad was the Titans offense last season? They scored one touchdown or less in nine of 16 games.

The Titans are ready to bolster the passing game in 2008 and have quarterback Vince Young working towards supporting that cause, according to the Tennessean.

Our View:With the addition of new offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, the Titans are focusing specific efforts to improve Young's accuracy down the field, hoping to improve his 8-for-47 mark on passes thrown over 20 yards or more, a marked regression from his performance as a rookie. We all joke about Young's preference for the run, but these reports indicate Young is putting in the work needed to motivate the Titans towards providing more of these opportunities this season, but only time will tell if Young can fit the system or if he continues to struggle in this facet of his game.

A recent NFL.com report suggesting that quarterback Vince Young considered retirement after one season was blown out of proportion, according to The Tennessean. “I was never going to quit football,’’ Young said. “Football, that is my pride and joy, it is my dream. I am playing my dream. And I don’t plan on giving that up any time soon.’’

Our View:We suspect the earlier report was taken out of context, as it’s not very likely that a 25 year old NFL quarterback is going to walk away from millions of dollars on the table, regardless of how much pressure their job entails.

Vince Young told NFL.com that he considered retiring during training camp last summer. "I really thought long and hard about it," Young said. "There was so much going on with my family. It was crazy being an NFL quarterback. It wasn't fun anymore. All of the fun was out of it. All of the excitement was gone. All I was doing was worrying about things. My teammates helped lift me out of it. I prayed really hard. And I began to focus on God's calling for me. Play football. Be a role model."

Our View:Hmmmm. Really? We wouldn't take this too seriously. Young just turned 25 and still has some growing up to do. Don't worry about him hanging up his cleats anytime soon.
