Newsbreakers

Offensive lineman Nick Kaczur did not participate in practice, according to the Providence Journal. He is attempting to recover from a right ankle injury.

Our View:The Patriots gave up six sacks to the Broncos on Monday night, and if Kaczur can not play, Matt Cassel will probably find himself on the turf quite a bit again on Sunday.
October 17, 2008
The Boston Globe reports that Nick Kaczur is doubtful for Monday night's game. He was carted off the field on Sunday after injuring his ankle.

Our View:If Kaczur can't play Monday night against the Broncos and veteran Oliver Ross is not activated off the non-football injury list, second-year lineman Mark LeVoir could be in line for his first career start.
October 15, 2008
Nick Kaczur (ankle) and Matt Light (knee), along with DE Jarvis Green (ankle), all missed practice on Wednesday for the Patriots, according to NFL.com.

Our View:The Pats have enough problems on the field that they really cannot stand to lose two tackles, so monitor the duos outlook for the Pats next contest.

Right tackle Nick Kaczur was carted off the field after suffering an injury during the first quarter of the Week 6 game in San Diego.

Our View:The Patriots are losing one player at an average of every four minutes in this contest. We'll update Kaczur's status when more is known, but this is more bad news for this offense.

Nick Kaczur has been activated from the PUP list, according to the Boston Globe. Coach Bill Belichick said, "Nick's been a good player for us, he's played a couple different spots. We will probably be able to use that versatility now that our numbers are a little bit low. Hopefully they will climb back soon." During his brief absence, the Patriots were shorthanded on the offensive line.

Our View:It was never revealed if he was placed on the PUP list due to an ailment or just to give him time to settle his legal matter.
July 25, 2008
Nick Kaczur, who was in court Monday stemming from his arrest in April for illegal possession of the prescription painkiller OxyContin, opened training camp on the PUP list, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:He will have a misdemeanor drug charge dropped if he can stay out of trouble for six months. The team did not specify if he was placed on the PUP list due to a physical ailment or just to give him time to settle his legal matter.

ESPN.com reports that Nick Kaczur pleaded guilty on Tuesday to speeding in a deal with prosecutors that will put a misdemeanor drug possession charge on hold.

Our View:Kaczur will be in camp on Wednesday and it does not appear he will face suspension at this point. The article does mention Kaczur ratting out his supplier which led to an arrest, so bad karma should be hanging over the former Pro Bowler's head.
July 19, 2008
Nick Kaczur had 202 OxyContin pills labeled as being made in Canada when he was arrested in April in New York, according to ESPN.com. Kaczur is scheduled to be arraigned next week in Whitestown, N.Y., on a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor.

Our View:Kaczur will remain with the Pats despite the arrest.

The Patriots have stated that Nick Kaczur will remain with the team despite his recent drug charges, according to SI.com. In case you missed it, Kaczur was arrested in New York State on April 27 after police said a small amount of OxyContin was found in his truck following a traffic stop. Kaczur then helped the DEA catch the man who was allegedly supplying him with the drug in a sting operation.

Our View:The team did not make a statement regarding possible discipline for his arrest.

It has been reported that Nick Kaczur was arrested back on April 27 for illegal possession of prescription painkillers, according to the Boston Globe. Kaczur was driving 76 miles an hour in a 65-mile-per-hour zone on the New York State Thruway in Whitestown when police pulled him over and discovered a small amount of controlled substance that he did not have a prescription for.

Our View:Kaczur was then used in a sting operation for the DEA to catch a supplier of OxyContin. The team did not make a statement, but did sign tackle Oliver Ross on Monday, likely for insurance. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said last night that misusing prescription drugs is a violation of the league's substance-abuse policies and that players face escalating sanctions for repeated violations.
