Andrew Walter continues to perform well, as he completed 10-of-12 passes for 82 yards in Saturday's exhibition against the 49ers, according to the SF Chronicle. Coach Lane Kiffin said, "Anytime someone plays that well, especially at that position, it builds your confidence in him. Andrew has gone through a lot, and I think it made him stronger."

Our View:The Raiders are content with him as their primary backup behind JaMarcus Russell, which is why the club didn' make a run at any free agents at the position.

Andrew Walter is currently the frontrunner for the number two quarterback job behind starter JaMarcus Russell, according to the SF Chronicle. He said, "Well, I understand JaMarcus is the starter. That's not going to change regardless of anything, barring injury. Am I happy with that? No. I want to be a starter. I've always said I don't want to be a backup in the NFL."

Our View:Walter has a good arm and is accurate, but is not a good fit for the Raiders' offense, as he is a pocket passer and their system requires a mobile quarterback who can run play-action rollouts and bootlegs. Hopefully JaMarcus Russell can stay intact over the full 16-game slate.

Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin doesn't want to have four quarterbacks on the roster, and it doesn't take much of an imagination to find the odd-man out: Andrew Walter. "I have great confidence in all our quarterbacks, especially the first two in Josh (McCown) and Daunte (Culpepper)," head coach Lane Kiffin tells the Oakland Tribune. "As I said before, I feel both of them can put us in a situation to win." Rookie JaMarcus Russell signed a contract earlier this week but does not need to be added to the 53-man roster until September 24.

The Raiders have pared their quarterback trio down to two. Head coach Lane Kiffin tells the Oakland Tribune that Daunte Culpepper or Josh McCown will be his starter, not Andrew Walter.
August 16, 2007
Andrew Walter will start against the 49ers in Saturday's preseason clash. He will be followed by Daunte Culpepper and Josh McCown, the Sacramento Bee reports.
