Philip Rivers was solid in Monday's win over Denver, completing 17-of-25 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. He was removed from the game late in the third period; the Chargers had the game well in hand and they didn't want to take any chances with thqie quarterback, who's battled a sore knee of late and was limping at times Monday.

Philip Rivers played just one series in the second half Sunday, as the Chargers already had the game in hand over the Lions. He wore a bulky brace on his sprained knee and clearly hobbled at times on the joint, but the added rest should help the injury improve as the Chargers head towards the playoffs.

After sitting out Wednesday' practice to rest his sprained left knee, Philip Rivers took part in half of Thursday's session. "I just think it's important at this position to get some reps in practice rather than go out there cold," he said, according to the AP. "Again, I took half of them today and felt pretty good. Hopefully, I'll increase it tomorrow and be ready." At this point, it looks like Rivers should be set to go against the Lions, but he'll have to avoid a setback beforehand.

Philip Rivers was knocked out of Sunday's game in the second quarter with a sprained knee. However, he was able to return with a brace and lead the Chargers to a comeback, overtime win over the Titans. "Usually on those deals it is a heck of a lot sorer tomorrow than today," coach Norv Turner said, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Specifically, it's believed that he may have sustained a partial tear of his MCL. He'll be examined further on Monday, but expect him to be limited in practice this week.

Philip Rivers had his second three-TD game of his career on Sunday against Green Bay, completing 27-of-36 passes for 306 yards, three scores and a pick. He relied heavily on Antonio Gates, who caught 11 passes for 113 yards. While Rivers may not yet be an every-week fantasy starter, it's possible he could carry that status by the end of the year.

"I think that's good to be able to go in and put a string of drives together," Philip Rivers tells the North County Times. "Sometimes when you only get two series, it's hard to gauge anything. Philip Rivers will not need surgery on his injured right foot and expects to be ready for offseason workouts that begin on March 19, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. However, he confirmed on Monday that he likely would have been unavailable for the AFC Championship Game had the Chargers beaten New England. “I think the reality is I probably wouldn't have been able to play,” he said. “I would have done all I could to play, and that probably wouldn't have been a good thing.”

The Chargers have a bye this week, and it seems likely that Rivers will be OK to play by next week. "It's pretty sore," Rivers said. "It's not unbearable. If we had to roll tonight, I'd be ready to roll. It's one of those kind of deals. It's not real comfortable, so we're taking care of it this week since we have some time. I need to get a good week of practice next week before the game."
