Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers will probably sit out tonight's preseason game against the St. Louis Rams, according to Sporting News Today.

Our View:No injury or anything for fantasy owners to be concerned about, as the team is simply resting their franchise QB. Rivers is coming off ACL surgery, so they are content with him getting his work during practice.
August 5, 2008
Philip Rivers will play about one quarter in the Chargers' exhibition opener Saturday against Dallas, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View:Rivers will get to test his surgically repaired knee against another team.
July 28, 2008
Philip Rivers' velocity on his passes has increased, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He had a very good off-season in the weight room and said, "I feel crisper. I don't know if it's a zip, but it's coming out crisp."

Our View:He namely strengthened the muscles in his legs, which has given him a new bounce. This is good news in his progress from ACL surgery.
July 21, 2008
Philip Rivers ran the offense with the rookies on Monday and continues to show no issues with his knees. The quarterback is coming off surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. "I’ve been going full go now for over a month," Rivers tells the team's official web site. "There’s nothing I can’t do. To be honest with you, there are times throughout the day when I can’t tell which knee I hurt. It’s still got to go a long way. It needs to continue to get stronger throughout the season, but I really feel better health-wise than I could ever hope for at this point."

Our View:We feel a little better about Rivers' status with each passing day. If we could say the same about Antonio Gates and Nick Hardwick, this quarterback's fantasy stock would be on the rise.
June 13, 2008
Philip Rivers, who is recovering from a torn ACL, states that he could start a game right now, if needed, according to Yahoo Sports.

Our View:He is leading the first-team offense in practice without any issues, and is expected to be close to 100% by the start of training camp. His recovery has been very smooth and quick, and his statement gives us further encouragement he will be under center for the Chargers in Week 1.
June 12, 2008
In his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, quarterback Philip Rivers has progressed to the point where he is leading the first team in almost every rep during offseason workouts, including in 11-on-11 drills against the defense, according to the Sporting News.

Our View:Every once in awhile, Billy Volek fills in with the starters while Rivers stands off to the side and watches or stretches his surgically repaired right knee. Rivers is expected to be almost 100 percent by the start of training camp.
June 6, 2008
The Chargers concluded a second week of voluntary offseason coaching sessions on Thursday and Philip Rivers is well ahead of scheduled in his knee rehab, this according to the North County Times.

Our View:The report noted that Rivers' recovery has been swift, and that it is hard to believe it was just four-plus months ago that Rivers tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a playoff victory in Indianapolis. He underwent surgery on Jan. 23. It's always concerning when a player recovers too quickly, almost as concerning as one that doesn't fully recover. Sometimes they believe they can do too much - too soon.
June 4, 2008
Reports out of San Diego are sounding sighs of relief as Chargers passer Philip Rivers appears to be recovering from injury well ahead of schedule, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:Rivers suffered a torn ACL late last season and his projected rehab was set to force a late start to training camp. However, Adam Schefter from the NFL Network noted Rivers was on the practice field today, taking ten snaps with the starting offense and leading the unit's 11-on-11 drills earlier this week.
June 2, 2008
Philip Rivers ran with the first-string offense through team drills on Monday. "I was prepared to have him really not do anything except throw routes against air," head coach Norv Turner tells the team's official web site. "He's just making great progress." Rivers underwent surgery in late January to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. "I think throwing the ball I've been as accurate as I've been during an offseason," Rivers says. "If I can just keep working, the key thing is just make sure I'm completely comfortable in the pocket and not worrying about something happening."

Our View:This is very encouraging news for Rivers and the Chargers. He is not a scrambling quarterback, so we're fairly positive about his prospects heading into the season. All signs point to Rivers being ready well in advance of Week 1.
May 19, 2008
Philip Rivers participate in limited practice on Monday running the offense in 7-on-7 drills, according to the team's Official Website. “We’re still being careful,” HC Norv Turner said. “We don’t want an accident where someone trips and falls on him. We’re keeping him out of anything where there’s any team-type periods, but he’s getting a lot of reps.”

Our View:All signs point toward Rivers being right on track to take all the snaps for the Chargers this season barring some unforeseen setback.
May 16, 2008
Philip Rivers continues to have success working with his reconstructed knee and after being involved in min-camps he figures to be just as active in OTA's, according to the Team's Official Website.

Our View:Rivers appears on target to beat most estimates and to be 100%, or very close to it, by the time the season rolls around. Each week brings better news for Rivers and his fantasy star is on the rise because of it.
May 2, 2008
The San Diego Chargers will hold their first three-day minicamp this weekend, and quarterback Philip Rivers is among the starters whose participation will be limited, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Rivers will throw some and by all accounts is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation from his Jan. 23 surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in his right leg.

Our View:Rivers will wear a brace this season, but fully expects to be 100 percent ready for training camp.
April 12, 2008
Philip Rivers is progressing nicely in his recovery from ACL surgery in his right knee, this according to the Chargers Official Site. “I started out with a little jog,” Rivers said. “I was going about as hard as I can go today. It feels good. I think I’m ahead, but at least where I need to be right now.”

Our View:Rivers believes he will be completely ready to go when camp opens in July, and barring any future setbacks, he might just end up being right.
March 6, 2008
Six weeks after undergoing surgery, Rivers is rehabilitating the knee like a madman, intent on recovering by the time training camp begins in late July, according to the North County Times. "I would be totally shocked if I'm not ready for training camp," Rivers said. Rivers will soon start doing exercises in a swimming pool and could receive the go-ahead to begin running by the end of this month. He has been doing a variety of exercises to regain strength in the knee and the muscles in other areas of the leg. The Chargers re-signed backup quarterback Billy Volek last week, to solidify the position heading into 2008.
February 14, 2008
Philip Rivers, who underwent offseason surgery to replace hi right Anterior Cruciate Ligament, is progressing in his rehab, according to the team's official website. Rivers is expected to be ready for the beginning of training camp in late July. What he does between now and then will depend on his rehab progress. Rivers was radically inconsistent this past season, but has a plethora of weapons (RB LaDainian Tomlinson, TE Antonio Gates, WR Chris Chambers, WR Vincent Jackson and young WR Craig Davis) at his disposal and should be considered a "Keeper League" candidate despite his 2007 numbers.
January 23, 2008
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers had surgery to repair his torn anterior cruciate ligament on Wednesday. Rivers’ rehab on his right knee is expected to take about six months, which means he should be ready to participate in training camp next summer.
January 21, 2008
It was revealed on Monday that Philip Rivers not only needs surgery on a torn anterior cruciate ligament, but he had surgery on his knee early last week to clean out the joint, just so he could play in the AFC Championship Game. Rivers toughed it out and played through Sunday’s game with a torn ACL, and looks to have surgery on the ligament as early as possible so he can be ready for training camp next summer.
January 20, 2008
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers will likely need to undergo surgery to correct partially torn ALC in his right knee, according to the San Diego Union Tribune. He also sprained the MCL in that knee.
January 18, 2008
Philip Rivers has a partially torn ACL in his right knee in addition to the sprained MCL the team has made known, and he's currently listed as doubtful for Sunday's game with New England, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Nonetheless, Rivers was able to do some practice work Friday, and he intends to test out the knee Sunday morning before the AFC Championship Game. Keep in mind Antonio Gates was doubtful last week then wound up playing at Indianapolis, for what that's worth. Billy Volek will get the start at quarterback if Rivers can't go.
January 17, 2008
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers (knee) and tight end Antonio Gates (toe) did not practice on Wednesday. Neither player will likely take the field until Friday.
January 14, 2008
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has been officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Patriots. Rivers landed awkwardly on his right knee after throwing a screen pass that Darren Sproles took 56-yards for a touchdown, and an MRI showed that Rivers sprained his medial collateral ligament. Coach Norv Turner compared Rivers injury to the situation involving Antonio Gates going into last weekend’s game, saying that Rivers would be day-to-day, but had a chance to play.
January 14, 2008
Philip Rivers was unable to finish Sunday's game after spraining his right knee. He said he could have returned, but since the offense was rolling well under backup Billy Volek's direction, he stayed out, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He now is dealing with two sprained knees, so even if he can play against the Pats this weekend, his effectiveness may be an issue.
January 13, 2008
Philip Rivers played three sharp quarters at Indianapolis Sunday before leaving with a knee injury. Rivers ended the day 14-for-19 passing for 264 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception. Billy Volek played the final quarter, adding a touchdown run and finishing off San Diego's surprising upset of the Colts. It's not clear yet what Rivers's status is for next week's trip to New England.
