Updating an earlier report, Calvin Pace fully intends to face the Raiders despite a jammed toe, according to the Associated Press. “I don’t even want to call it an injury,” Pace said. “It’s a boo-boo...I’ll be fine.”

Our View:Pace showed no outward signs of the injury as he walked around without a limp so it appears that there is every reason to believe he will pull on the pads this weekend.

The Daily News reports that outside linebacker Calvin Pace , third on the Jets with 3.5 sacks, was limited in practice after hurting his foot. He practiced fully on Wednesday, so presumably the injury occurred Thursday.

Our View:His status for Sunday is not known. Pace has been a force on defense this season and a productive IDP player.

Coach Eric Mangini likes Calvin Pace's versatility and thinks he can be an every-down player for the Jets' defense this season, according to the Star-Ledger. Mangini said, "He's very fast, has very good athletic ability and change-of-direction for someone his size. A lot of times, the taller they get, the bigger they get, the stiffer they get."

Our View:He is projected to start at left outside linebacker in the Jets' 3-4 system. He may not challenge the 97 tackles he made with the Cardinals in 2007, but could improve on his 5.5 sacks.

The opinions on the offseason free agent haul of the New York Jets vary widely with some insiders suggesting head coach Eric Mangini is looking for a quick fix in order to save his job in 2008, according to Pro Football Weekly. Some within the organization view the moves as key transactions for a team on the rise, while others feel the Mangini-Mike Tannenbaum duo threw exorbitant dollars at players who were either past their prime (Alan Faneca, Damien Woody and Tony Richardson) or unproven (Calvin Pace). If these moves fail to provide a positive impact, the media in the Big Apple will have a field day on the Jets front office in 2008.
March 3, 2008
The Jets and Calvin Pace have agreed to a six-year, $42 million deal, ESPN.com reports. The linebacker/end could be a great fit for the team's 3-4 defense.
