October 11, 2008
Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs was not fined for a hit on Titans quarterback Kerry Collins in which he was flagged for unnecessary roughness, nor was he fined for criticizing the officials afterward, according to the Tennessean.

Our View:Suggs said that the officials had too much power in the game, and questioned why they threw the flag on that hit. Usually, that will get some sort of fine from the NFL, but not in this case, for whatever reason.

As expected, franchise player Terrell Suggs has signed his one-year tender for $8.5 million, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:He returned to practice with the Ravens, and is slated to play around 15 snaps in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams. He should be ready to go for Week 1 against Cincinnati.

Terrell Suggs is expected to end his holdout today and report to practice, according to the Baltimore Sun. He will sign his one-year tender, which will be for $8.5 million. He will see some action in the Ravens' next preseason game.

Our View:He looks to be on pace to be ready for Week 1 against the Bengals.

John Clayton of ESPN indicates that Terrell Suggs will report to the Ravens Sunday and sign his one-year tender, which will be for $8.5 million.

Our View:Suggs has agreed to play this season at the $8.5 million tender and won't ask for any condition in the deal that will prevent the Ravens from franchising him next season. He is scheduled to be a free agent after the season. Suggs is to practice at the team facility next week and play about 15 snaps against the Rams in the third preseason game, putting him on pace to be ready for Week 1.

Terrell Suggs and the Ravens continue to remain in contact with one another, but the team still is not certain when their franchise player will report to camp, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:Suggs is expected to possibly miss the entirety of camp, but we are simply speculating at the moment without more concrete data.

The Ravens report defensive end/linebacker Terrell Suggs will not be reporting on Wednesday to the open of training camp with the rest of the team's veteran players, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View:Suggs is Baltimore's franchise player and one of the most valued members of its defense, yet he hasn't signed his one-year tender and can't practice until he does. The team hopes to resolve the matter in the next month, no longer allowed to sign Suggs to a long-term deal. However, we suggest you expect a long stay away from camp. It's a time honored tradition. He's not too happy with the contract, and he (like most players) is not a huge fan of camp, so why not skip and use it as a sounding board for your anger? He'll come in late in camp, but for now, you'll see reports of worry and potential rumors of a holdout.

Ravens defensive end/linebacker Terrell Suggs and the Baltimore Ravens failed to come to terms on a long-term contract, meaning the former first-round pick will play this season under the franchise tag, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Suggs is a core player on the Ravens defense, helping make that squad a consideration for fantasy football owners. Suggs also carries value in IDP leagues.

The Baltimore Ravens are making a last ditch effort to sign franchise linebacker Terrell Suggs to a long-term deal, according to ESPN. Both sides started exchanging offers Monday after talks had dragged on for most of the offseason.

Our View:Suggs has posted 45 sacks over the past five seasons, and with the price of pass rushers being so high, this could go down to the wire with no guarantee of a deal getting done.

With Baltimore DE Terrell Suggs and his newly-reviewed franchise tag grievance, the NFL has come to the decision that a new category for the personnel classification will be put in place, a definition aimed at appeasing the needs of both the team and player, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:In this case, the Ravens submitted league paperwork to designate Suggs as their franchise tagged player, agreeing to retain the player for a one-year contract agreement that will pay him the average of the top five players at the position. However, the problem arose when Baltimore submitted the paperwork and attempted to designate Suggs as a linebacker. Suggs is best classified as a "hybrid," used both at defensive end and linebacker depending on the formation. Suggs filed grievance, asking the NFL to determine the true definition of his position due to the severe different in pay ($8.065 million for linebacker, $8.879 million for defensive end). As a result, the NFL and the NFL Players Association is in the midst of legal proceedings that will create a new position in franchise designation, to be known as the defensive end-linebacker. The value of the position will be the average of the two positions, thus resulting in Suggs' new one-year compensation of $8.50 million.

Terrell Suggs will be designated the Ravens Franchise Defensive End-Linebacker in an agreement reached between Suggs, the Ravens and the NLF Players Association, according to ESPN.

Our View:Suggs challenged the teams designation of linebacker by claiming he was a defensive end, a difference that would have resulted in a salary of about $800,000 in salary. As a result of the compromise, he will be paid about $8.5 million, just about the average of the two positions.

Terrell Suggs surprised his teammates and team officials on Thursday when he showed up to the team's mini-camp despite not having a contract, this according to ESPN. "I want to show my coach [John Harbaugh] that I'm on board," Suggs said. "I wanted to show him that I have total faith in him. We've had a couple of phone conversation in which he said he was the new coach. He laid out his plans on where he wants to go. I've liked him from our first conversation."

Our View:This is fantastic news for Ravens fans as it appears that Suggs will let his agent negotiate while he just plays football. We wish more players would take this attitude as it's certainly a welcomed change.

Terrell Suggs has filed a grievance against the Baltimore Ravens, according to the Baltimore Sun. Suggs has taken issue with being designated as a linebacker when the Ravens placed the franchise tage on him and would prefer to be listed as a defensive end, a change that would bring Suggs an additional $814,000. Suggs claims more than half of his snaps in 2007 were played at defensive end, though the Ravens stand pat stating Suggs should be franchised as a linebacker because he starts as an outside LB in the team's 3-4 defense and also appears on the NFL's Pro Bowl ballot as a linebacker. Suggs and the Ravens will meet with arbitration to settle the dispute.

The Ravens have placed their franchise tag on Terrell Suggs, but did they do it at the right position? The team tagged him as a linebacker, which gives him a one-year tender offer at $8.065 million. However, Suggs claims that he played over half defensive snaps at defensive end, which has an $8.879 million tender offer, according to ESPN.com's John Clayton. Suggs is expected to challenge the designation.
February 11, 2008
The Ravens are going to keep Terrell Suggs around for at least another year, as the team will slap the franchise tag on him by Feb. 21 -- the deadline for teams to assign franchise tags on players, according to the Baltimore Sun . "We will be using the franchise tag on Terrell if we don't have a long-term deal in place between now and then," Baltimore GM Ozzie Newsome said. Suggs is a terrific player, even though he recorded a career-low five sacks last season.
February 7, 2008
Terrell Suggs' agent, Gary Wichard and the Baltimore Ravens have been in discussions since last April, attempting to hammer out a long-term contract extension, according to the Carroll County Times. Suggs, 25, who has compiled 45 sacks in the past five seasons, is reportedly seeking a five-year, $35 million deal including $20 million in guaranteed money. “We remain in negotiations,” general manager Ozzie Newsome said earlier this week.
