Newsbreakers
September 4, 2008
It will likely not be known whether or not Ravens running back Willis McGahee will be able to play until just before the game on Sunday, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:McGahee is dealing with a knee injury, and if he does not go, rookie second-round pick Ray Rice will get the start instead.
August 29, 2008
It is unlikely that Ravens running back Willis McGahee will play in Week 1 due to his knee injury, and he is still walking with a limp, according to Sporting News Today.

Our View:McGahee had arthroscopic knee surgery early in camp, and has been missing in action ever since. Yet another reminder that handcuffing Ray Rice to McGahee is important in fantasy drafts.
August 20, 2008
Ravens coach John Harbaugh reports he has set a timetable for the return of rusher Willis McGahee, but he remains undecided about his potential to play in the team's final two preseason games, according to the Sporting News.

Our View:Harbaugh admits his new offensive scheme could take time to absorb, and as such he worries that this time missed by McGahee could be a problem. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after the first week of training camp and has not practiced since. Rumors came forth early stating several offensive assistant coaches were unhappy with McGahee for missing several minicamps, and as such further rumors are coming forth that support a belief that rookie Ray Rice is favored and could be pushed into the role should McGahee continue to miss time. We'll keep you posted as more news comes forth.

Willis McGahee is optimistic regarding his return to the Ravens following knee surgery, according to the Baltimore Sun. McGahee said, "I will be ready for the regular season, but I don't know about playing in the preseason."

Our View:This is encouraging news, but McGahee still shouldn't be selected as a late first-rounder in fantasy drafts. If you do decide to draft McGahee with a later pick, be sure to "handcuff" rookie Ray Rice for insurance.

Willis McGahee could miss the rest of the preseason, according to the Baltimore Sun. Furthermore, reporter Mike Preston says McGahee does not have many fans in the Baltimore front office because his work ethic is substandard, and it would not be a shock to see him get cut before the end of the regular season.

Our View:With the quality play of rookie Ray Rice, McGahee could be deemed expendable. This news has to alarm fantasy owners who invested a high pick in the former Miami back. It is absolutely imperative to handcuff Rice should you choose to draft McGahee.
