Newsbreakers
November 19, 2008
Dwight Freeney missed practice on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Freeney has had trouble staying healthy this year, but has been reliable when he's played. He has seven sacks and three forced fumbles this season, but has had two games this year in which he went without a single tackle.
November 17, 2008
Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney accumulated two sacks against Houston, each of which were critical to the team ending up with a 33-27 victory, reports the Indianapolis Star.

Our View:Freeney now has four sacks in his last two games, and has 7.0 on the season. After getting a sack in three of his first four contests, he was held without one for four straight games before his current explosion.
November 12, 2008
Defensive end Dwight Freeney sat out Colts practice on Wednesday because he needed some rest, according to the Colts official web site.

Our View:Freeney got a normal day off on Wednesday and he will be back on the practice field on Thursday.
October 12, 2008
Dwight Freeney (hamstring) is active in Week 6 and should start.

Our View:The Ravens have played conservatively on offense this season, so it could be tough for Freeney to add to his sack total.
October 11, 2008
Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney should be able to play Week 6 when the team takes on the Baltimore Ravens, according to the Indianapolis Star. "All those guys we think should be available," Colts coach Tony Dungy said.

Our View:Freeney, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, practiced on Friday, raising expectations. He has had a very good season, and though he has only 10 tackles, he also has three sacks and forced two fumbles.
October 9, 2008
Dwight Freeney could miss Week 6 due to his hamstring injury, according to the Indianapolis Star.

Our View:The team previously stated that his injury should not force him to miss time, so fantasy owners in IDP leagues should wait before submitting their lineups. Freeney is not much of a tackler, but is still a solid contributor to the Colts' pass rush as he has three sacks and two forced fumbles so far.
October 8, 2008
Dwight Freeney was held out of the Colts practice on Wednesday due to a strained hamstring, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:The Colts have said that this recent injury should not force Freeney to miss any time.
October 6, 2008
Dwight Freeney (leg) was banged up in Week 5 but the team believes he will be able to play through it, according to NFL.com. "He strained something in his leg on the first fumble, but he went back in for about five or six plays," HC Tony Dungy said.

Our View:Freeney has had a rough time staying healthy of late, but as you just read his most recent setback isn't one that figures to keep him off the field.
August 22, 2008
Dwight Freeney, who is recovering from surgery to repair a Lis Franc fracture, is slated to make his preseason debut Sunday against the Bills, according to the Indianapolis Star.

Our View:He began practicing earlier this week after missing all of training camp. Barring a setback, he looks to be on target for Week 1 against the Bears.
August 19, 2008
Defensive end Dwight Freeney practiced in pads on Tuesday for the first time since foot surgery last November, the AP reports. "I should definitely be ready in three weeks," Freeney says. "I think I'm close (to 100 percent). I'm definitely good enough to compete and play." He underwent an operation after suffering a Lis Franc fracture.

Our View:Freeney has lost a lot of IDP value over the past two seasons, as he has recorded only 9.0 sacks over 27 regular season games. We're keeping our expectations low for 2008, but he could turn into a bargain.
July 25, 2008
Dwight Freeney is going to begin camp on the PUP list, and is expected to remain there for about three weeks, according to ESPN.

Our View:His foot is structurally fine after sustaining a Lisfranc fracture last season, and he hopes to play in the Colts' fourth preseason game. He remains on pace to be ready to go for Week 1 of the regular season.
July 17, 2008
Dwight Freeney's rehab from a Lisfranc fracture remains on schedule, according to the Indianapolis Star. He has experienced no setbacks from the injury that forced him to miss the second half of last season. He said, "I’m doing everything I used to do: spinning and twisting and pushing, all of that. I’m getting work on all of that. I’m right on time."

Our View:Freeney expects to open training camp on the PUP list, but noted that he will be ready to play in Week 1 against Chicago without a doubt.
July 9, 2008
Dwight Freeney, who is coming off foot surgery, is expected to be ready for action in Week 1, according to ESPN. Coach Tony Dungy said, "We've got, fortunately, one of the best foot doctors in the country, Dr. Dave Porter, who's working on this. He tells us Dwight should make a complete recovery. But it's always kind of scary with a guy like that whose speed is his big asset. He needs to come back full strength, but everything right now indicates that he's going to do that."

Our View:He probably won't be ready for the start of training camp, but will be worked back in slowly, and is expected to be on the field in Week 1 at home against the Bears.
June 25, 2008
Per team insiders, defensive end Dwight Freeney is well on his way to be back in playing condition by the start of the regular season, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Freeney has been nursing a Lisfranc (foot) injury throughout the offseason program, but team doctors have told him that he’s ahead of schedule with his return.
May 18, 2008
Dwight Freeney missed minicamp and will likely miss the start of training camp as well because of the foot surgery he had last season, according to ESPN.com. "It's something where you wake up in the morning, you feel it, but once you get going it sort of works itself out. It's a process, it's one of those things where you have to understand every week is new and just because it hurts on Tuesday doesn't mean it will hurt on Thursday."

Our View:Freeney has been running three times a week to get himself back in shape, but he appears to still have a fair bit of work to do before he will be able to return to the field.
May 17, 2008
Dwight Freeney did not participate in minicamp, but that was expected, according to StampedeBlue.com. Freeney is recovering from lis fran surgery on his left foot.

Our View:A complete recovery is expected for Freeney, but his low tackle totals and potentially declining sack totals keep him ranked as a fringe fantasy prospect.
April 25, 2008
Defensive end Dwight Freeney will attend but won't participate in the Indianapolis Colts' May 16-18 mandatory minicamp or their subsequent voluntary summer school. However, he expects to gain medical clearance for some level of participation when training camp opens July 24, according to the Indianapolis Star.

Our View:A complete recovery is expected for Freeney, which includes regaining his rare speed. The most recent battery of X-rays and magnetic resonance image tests confirmed "everything is perfect'' structurally. Freeney is far more valuable to the Colts, than he is to your IDP roster.
February 14, 2008
Dwight Freeney is unlikely to be ready at the start of training camp next year. The defensive end is recovering from surgery on his left foot that he had last November. "With Freeney, that (training camp) would be pushing it," president Bill Polian said in the AP. "It's my thought, with Dwight, he'll be ready opening day."
