December 3, 2008
The Sporting News Today reports that the Tennessee Titans have been tough on running back Jamal Lewis throughout his career, and in his last three games against the Titans, Lewis has averaged just 2.2 yards per carry.

Our View:Lewis and the Browns face off against the Titans this week, and with Ken Dorsey under center, the Browns will surely turn to Lewis. Tennessee is 12th against the run this season, and Lewis' history against the team does not necessarily bode well for fantasy owners.
November 30, 2008
Jamal Lewis lugged the rock 24 times for 77 yards in the Week 13 loss to Indianapolis.

Our View:Lewis has compiled 77 or fewer rushing yards in each of the last five weeks with one touchdown during this time frame. The Browns face the Titans' and Eagles' run defenses in the next two weeks, respectively, making Lewis a very weak prospect going forward into the fantasy playoffs.
November 23, 2008
Jamal Lewis didn't get much of a chance against Houston on Sunday, even though he was pretty effective. He only got 10 carries even though he picked up 58 yards in those carries.

Our View:The Browns didn't have much success through the air either, so it's hard to say why Lewis didn't get more touches.
November 13, 2008
Cleveland running back Jamal Lewis has recently said he thought his team quit in the game against Denver last Thursday, but head coach Romeo Crennel disputed that notion, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. "The word 'quit' has taken a life of its own and grown a little bit bigger, and now the Browns are quitters and the coach has lost control of the team and there's division in the locker room, and that's not the case," Crennel said.

Our View:Clearly, Crennel needs to state his case because he cannot have people thinking he is failing to motivate his players properly. Whether the team quit or not is up for debate, but what is not is that they desperately need a win against Buffalo to have any semi-realistic shot of a wild-card spot.
November 6, 2008
Jamal Lewis led the Browns in rushing on Thursday night with 19 carries for 60 yards and one score against the Broncos. He also added two receptions for 24 yards.

Our View:It wasn't a very good night for Lewis, but the end zone dance certainly makes the evening more than palatable. Lewis has carried the ball at least 19 times in 6-straight games, but this is the second week in a row that he was held to under 65 yards rushing.
October 26, 2008
Running back Jamal Lewis ran the ball 20 times for 81 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. He also added one catch for seven yards.

Our View:Lewis has been playing better in recent weeks, and so have the Browns. Over his last four games, he has at least 79 rushing yards and a touchdown in three out of the four games. Fantasy owners have to be happy with his consistency.
October 13, 2008
Jamal Lewis ran 21 times on the night for Cleveland, gathering 88 yards and scoring a touchdown in the Browns' victory over the Giants.

Our View:Lewis scored just his second rushing touchdown of the season, and though his yards per carry average remains relatively low, he's still going to grind out tough yards for Cleveland.
September 29, 2008
Jamal Lewis carried the ball 25 times for 79 yards in Sunday's win over Cincinnati and admitted that he felt "beat up" following the game, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. He said,"I haven't felt like this since last year, and the offensive line feels the same way. I'm beat up from pounding it up in there. We set the tempo and played physical."

Our View:He handled his most attempts since the 2007 season finale against the 49ers, when he rushed 26 times for 128 yards. He feels tired, but has plenty of time to recharge his battery as the Browns are on a bye in Week 5.
September 28, 2008
Running back Jamal Lewis compiled 25 carries for 79 yards and one touchdown in the Week 4 victory over Cincinnati.

Our View:Lewis, who also chipped in two receptions for 15 yards, scored his first touchdown of the season. After four games he has compiled 235 yards and is averaging only 3.4 per tote.
September 28, 2008
Jamal Lewis has a good track record against the Bengals as he topped 100 rushing yards in nine of 13 starts, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:Lewis is off to a slow start with a mere 3.5 yards per carry average, but would have a good chance to get on track today at Cincinnati, meaning he should be penciled into fantasy lineups.
September 22, 2008
Jamal Lewis commented on the Browns' loss to Baltimore, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Lewis said, "It's pathetic. I don't know what else to say. So far, we've played three good teams, and we're a good team. But we didn't match our opponents' performance in the first three games. They finished games and we didn't."

Our View:Cleveland was projected to challenge the Steelers for the AFC North division title, but are off to a disappointing 0-3 start. The Browns' offense is stuck in neutral, and Lewis is only averaging 52 rushing yards per contest. Perhaps they can get back on track this weekend against the Bengals, who are also seeking their first win.
September 19, 2008
Jamal Lewis is listed as probable for Week 3 according to the team's website.

Our View:Lewis has managed just a 3.1 yards per carry average and faces a tough challenge again this week at Baltimore. Don't give up so soon on Lewis. In his first three weeks he will have faced Dallas, Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Things can only get better. Assuming he has no further issues with his ankle, he may be a good buy low candidate.
September 17, 2008
Jamal Lewis (ankle) was limited in practice on Wednesday according the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

September 14, 2008
Cleveland running back Jamal Lewis had a difficult game in his team's 10-6 loss to the Steelers. Lewis carried the rock 19 times, but came away with only 38 yards, good for a measly 2.0 yards per carry.

Our View:Lewis also caught three passes for 28 yards, but that's not much of a consolation prize. Nobody on Cleveland's offense is providing much for fantasy owners right now.
September 8, 2008
Jamal Lewis was a game-time decision for Sunday' opener against Dallas due to a sore hamstring, but he ultimately was able to play and favorably racked up 76 total yards, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. When asked if he felt 100 percent, Lewis responded, "I'll let you know that Monday morning. But right now, I feel great. I ran great. I was kind of hesitant early because it was hurting me a little bit. I wasn't going to miss this game. I wanted to go out there and push it and I did push it. It felt real good. I'm happy with it. Hopefully I'll sleep well tonight."

Our View:This is encouraging news for fantasy owners that drafted Lewis to be a starter. Lewis is among the toughest running backs in the NFL, and will need to display that toughness in Week 2 against the rival Steelers.
September 7, 2008
Jamal Lewis, who was questionable coming into Sunday's season opener, recorded 14 touches for 76 total yards in the Browns' loss to the Cowboys.

Our View:Lewis missed a portion of Friday's practice with a sore hamstring.
September 7, 2008
Jamal Lewis (hamstring) will start in Sunday's opener against the Cowboys, the team's official web site reports.

Our View:Lewis may not carry the full load due to his lingering ailment, but he is still the best Browns back to start in this tough matchup.
September 7, 2008
Jamal Lewis is expected to play in Sunday's season opener against the Cowboys despite a sore hamstring, ESPN's John Clayton notes. The veteran running back is listed as questionable.

Our View:Lewis has been dealing with this hamstring ailment for a few weeks, so we might see more of Jerome Harrison and Jason Wright than usual. Jamal remains the best start of the bunch, but it's a tough matchup against the Cowboys, who were last year's sixth-best run defense.
September 5, 2008
Jamal Lewis is going to be a game-time decision for Sunday's opener against Dallas, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He is dealing with a hamstring injury.

Our View:If Lewis is unable to go, Jason Wright and Jerome Harrison would split the workload at running back.
September 3, 2008
Jamal Lewis is expected to practice today, according to the Browns' official website. He has been dealing with a hamstring injury and coach Romeo Crennel said, "He'll be out there. He'll be listed as limited, so we'll see what he can do. The more he can do, the more we'll give him to do."

Our View:Lewis looks to be a good bet to play in Week 1 against Dallas, assuming he gets through Wednesday's practice without a problem.
September 1, 2008
Jamal Lewis sat out Monday's practice, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:He is expected to try to play Sunday against Dallas, but the team wants to give his ailing hamstring a few more days to heal.
August 29, 2008
Jamal Lewis is expected to practice next week and be ready to play in Week 1 against the Cowboys, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. He has been recovering from a hamstring strain.

Our View:Lewis would be a top-15 fantasy running back if he can stay healthy this season, and is worth targeting as a No. 2 option now that it looks like he will be good to go for the season opener.
August 27, 2008
Browns running back Jamal Lewis is making progress from a hamstring strain and should be ready to go in the team's season opening game, according to the Canton Repository.

Our View:Lewis got back on the fantasy radar with a 1,300 yard, 11 total touchdown season, and he remains the Browns featured back. Injuries have been a problem with him in the past, but he is a solid contributor to fantasy squads when healthy.
July 30, 2008
Jamal Lewis is in amazing shape according to the Browns' website. He has checked in "lighter and looks even younger than he did last season."

Our View:Lewis tallied 1300-plus yards a season ago on top of 11 touchdowns. He is consistently undervalued in drafts but should finish among the top-15 rushers with a healthy season. The Browns are a big threat through the air meaning teams will not be able to stack it in on the powerful back as they did when he played for the Ravens. Given that more and more teams are using a committee approach at the position, Lewis is one of the more reliable selections for a second running back on fantasy squads.
July 10, 2008
New concerns are arising in Cleveland with news that receiver Joe Jurevicius will be lost to yet another knee surgery, leading one AFC scout to express significant worry for the potential production of rusher Jamal Lewis , according to SI.com.

Our View:The scout quoted in this SI column notes Jurevicius was one of the team's best blockers in efforts to move the ball down the field, and without him on the field, there could be a severe regression in that support this season. Those efforts were a significant contribution to Lewis' return to prominence last season, and with those blocks in question for Week 1 and beyond, this scout believes it may be wise to lower your expectations for Lewis as a yardage machine, at least until Jurevicius gets back on the field.
May 25, 2008
Jamal Lewis showed up in excellent physical condition and had a solid camp for the Browns, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:The club is very optimistic about the 28-year old bruiser racking up another 1,000 yard campaign. He is coming off a strong 2007 season, as he broke loose for 1,304 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, along with 30 receptions for another 248 yards and two scores. He should rank as a safe fantasy prospect for 2008.
May 23, 2008
Jamal Lewis received a leading question regarding 2008 predictions on Thursday, and he answered boldly. "I think 1,400 or 1,500 yards is an understatement," Lewis informs the Canton Repository. "I'd like to get more than that. I think I can get more than that. Missing two games... I could have gotten more than that last year."

Our View:It's worth noting again that Jamal simply didn't throw out numbers on his own. We'd expect him to be confident, but fantasy owners will be pleased if he can hit his 2007 numbers (1,304 rushing yards, nine scores) again in 2008.
February 26, 2008
Last week it was reported in the media that Cleveland RB Jamal Lewis signed a three-year deal with approximately $6 million in guaranteed money, but those figures were a little off, according to a report at ProFootballTalk.com. League insiders are suggesting the deal will pay Lewis $6.5 million during the first season and another $3.5 million in guaranteed money during 2009. Lewis started 15 games last season – posting 298 carries, 1304 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.
February 21, 2008
Jamal Lewis signed a 3-year deal to remain the Browns lead running back according to NFL.com. “I feel the future is extremely bright for this team and I’m excited to be a part of it for another three years. I said all year long that I wanted to get a long-term deal done to stay in Cleveland and it looks like with this new contract I will be able to finish my career as a Brown.” Lewis finished fifth in the NFL last season with 1304 yards, and his rough, up the middle running style plays well when the weather turns cold. Lewis also scored nine TD and figures to be a solid RB2 next season.
February 21, 2008
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns and Jamal Lewis have agreed to terms on a multi-year deal. No word on whether the package is for two or three years.
February 21, 2008

The Browns have offered the veteran tailback a two-year deal, according to the Plain Dealer, but Lewis' agent Mitch Frankel is fighting for a three-year package. February 12, 2008
The Browns GM Phil Savage has several players he must consider re-signing or reworking their contracts, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Quarterback Derek Anderson prefers a six-year contract over the three-year deal proposed by the club. Running back Jamal Lewis wants at least three years while the Browns offered two. Both players are expected to be extended soon.
January 26, 2008
The Browns confirmed Friday that they have sent formal contract proposals to both Jamal Lewis and Derek Anderson, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. It's believed that Lewis received a two-year offer, while Anderson's is for three years. Both can become free agents at the end of February, though Anderson would be a restricted free agent.
January 20, 2008
The Browns have started to talk about a new deal for Jamal Lewis, the Akron Beacon-Journal reports. Lewis is coming off a 1,304-yard rushing season on a one-year, make-good contract.
