Report: Celtics to exercise option on Rondo
Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Celtics reportedly plan to exercise their option for the 2009-2010 season on point guard Rajon Rondo, an integral member of the club's championship run last season.

Celtics general manager Danny Ainge told the Boston Globe on Wednesday that the club will exercise its $2.09 million option on the young point guard prior to the start of the season. Rondo and his agent told the Globe that they are happy about the decision, and hope to sign a long-term deal with the Celtics during the summer of 2009.

Rondo averaged 10.6 points, 5.1 ... More...

Rajon Rondo, GWednesday 10/15, 11:38 AM CT
The Celtics hold a $2.09 million option for the 2009-10 campaign on guard Rajon Rondo, and they will exercise it before the start of this season, the Boston Globe notes.

Our View:This isn't surprising. The Celtics will likely look to sign Rondo to a long-term deal next summer. He made big strides in 2007-08 and could be a major building block once the post-Big Three era begins.
Leon Powe, FTuesday 10/14, 9:45 PM CT
The AP reports that Leon Powe scored 17 points, including the go-ahead basket with just over two minutes left, to lead the Boston Celtics to a 90-86 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in a preseason game Tuesday night. Powe's final points of the game put the Celtics ahead 85-84.

Our View:Powe will have games like this a few times a month but his playing time and production is too inconsistent to warrant any fantasy consideration.
Kendrick Perkins, CMonday 10/13, 2:49 PM CT
Kendrick Perkins, who has been recovering from a shoulder injury, returned to practice Monday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:He is expected to play against the Cavaliers Tuesday. Now he will pace himself regarding contact and his conditioning.
