Andrew Brackman, P Friday 10/10, 3:48 PM CT
Yankees minor leaguer and former first-round pick Andrew Brackman is throwing in the Hawaii Winter League and has been impressive thus far, according to Jason Grey of ESPN.com.

Our View: Brackman is throwing 95 mph gas with a changeup about 10 mph slower than that. He is 6-foot-10 and coming off Tommy John surgery, but clearly has a bright future.
Derek Jeter, SS Friday 10/10, 10:08 AM CT
Derek Jeter and co. will have some comfortable new surroundings when they move into the clubhouse of the new Yankee Stadium, according to the Orange County Register. Robert Kuwada reports that they will have underground parking with elevators to the clubhouse, which will be 25,000 square feet.

Our View: It will also have a giant weight room, a kitchen with a staff and computers at every locker.
Mariano Rivera, P Tuesday 10/7, 10:12 AM CT
Yankees closer Mariano Rivera will have right shoulder surgery Tuesday, according to the New York Post.

Our View: The surgery is going to be performed by noted shoulder guru Dr. David Altchek. He will remove calcification from the top of the future Hall of Famer's shoulder.
Mike Mussina, P Tuesday 10/7, 10:01 AM CT
Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina says he has not yet decided whether or not he will pitch next season, according to the New York Daily News. "The playoffs are still going on and it still seems like the season just ended. I'm not rushing after it, but I know sooner or later I'm going to have to figure out what I want to do," he said.

Our View: Mussina is at 270 wins, and though he would not get to 300 career victories next year, getting to 280 or 285 would certainly help his iffy Hall of Fame candidacy.
Bobby Abreu, RF Saturday 10/4, 6:04 PM CT
Bobby Abreu wants at least a three-year contract as he heads toward free agency for the first time in his career, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: Abreu prefers to remain with the Yankees, but he does not want a one-year deal. It is believed the Yankees will offer Abreu arbitration and be content with compensatory draft picks if and when he turns it down. He scored 100 runs and registered 100 RBI over 156 games in 2008.
Mariano Rivera, P Friday 10/3, 3:46 PM CT
Yankees closer Mariano Rivera will have surgery on his right shoulder on Tuesday to repair calcification on the AC joint, according to Yankees.com.

Our View: Rivera is expected to be ready to pitch in spring training, but shoulder injuries can be tricky to deal with. That said, he did pitch most of the season with the pain, and was as dominant as ever, sporting a 0.67 WHIP.
Jason Giambi, 1B Thursday 10/2, 11:07 AM CT
It is possible that Jason Giambi could return to his former team, the Oakland A's, in the offseason, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.com.

Our View: Giambi would return to Oakland a different player than when he left after the 2001 season. He never hit less than .291 in any full season with Oakland, but hit above .271 only in his first season with the Yankees. Not to mention the fact that he wouldn't be as, well, beefy since the last time he was in Oakland's clubhouse.
Mike Mussina, P Thursday 10/2, 10:10 AM CT
At his press conference on Wednesday, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he thinks that Yankees hurler Mike Mussina is leaning towards retirement, according to the Lower Hudson Journal News.

Our View: Mussina shocked the fantasy world by achieving his first 20-win season this year, to go with a 3.37 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. He has 270 career wins, and is a borderline Hall of Fame player.
Joba Chamberlain, P Wednesday 10/1, 6:35 PM CT
Newsday reports that Brian Cashman expects Joba Chamberlain to be in the starting rotation for 2009.

Our View: Joba started 12 games this season with mixed results and he rarely went deep into games. With an offseason to prepare for the role, expect Joba to be more effective in 2009.
