Mike Lieberthal signed a one-day, minor league contract with the Phillies on Sunday. He will officially retire as a member of the Phillies, the team he played for from 1994-2006. "To put everything I had into the Phillies for 13 years, it’s pretty special," Lieberthal tells the AP. "You don’t see too many players who stay with one team in any sport for that long of a period. It’s definitely an honor to come here and finish with the Phillies."

Our View:The two-time All-Star had some quality fantasy campaigns from 1997-2005, including a 31-homer year in 1999. As with many long-time catchers, though, injuries caught up with Lieberthal.
January 27, 2008
Mike Lieberthal announced Saturday that he's retiring. "I'm done," Lieberthal said, according to the LA Daily News. "I decided a couple of weeks after the season ended. If (the Dodgers) had picked up my option, I probably would have played one more year. But I didn't want to go anywhere else." Russell Martin's breakout campaign last season left Lieberthal a total afterthought as the Dodgers' backup backstop, as he played in just 33 games and hit .234 in 77 at-bats, so this news shouldn't have any effect on fantasy teams.
April 5, 2007
Mike Lieberthal is expected to get his first start with the Dodgers on Sunday, when he will catch Derek Lowe against the Giants, according to the LA Times.
December 6, 2006
The Dodgers signed Mike Lieberthal to a one-year contract Wednesday, according to the Sports Network. The deal includes a club option for 2008. Lieberthal, who hit .273 with nine homers and 36 RBI for the Phillies last year, will back up Russell Martin behind the plate. With this signing, there's a good chance Toby Hall will be dealt.
November 30, 2006
Mike Lieberthal is interested in playing for the Dodgers and would be willing to back up Russell Martin, according to the LA Times. The Dodgers are also interested in Lieberthal, but they would only offer him a contract if he is not offered arbitration by the Phillies (the Dodgers would then have to give up a draft pick for signing him) and he passes a physical. Lieberthal missed 95 games last year because of a variety of injuries. The Dodgers are trying to trade current backup Toby Hall.
