Scout.com reports that Jason Schmidt has a good chance of being ready to start spring training alongside the Dodger's healthy pitchers. Schmidt is currently playing catch at 75 feet near his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, and he is expected to step up to long-toss in December and throwing off a mound in January.

Our View:Schmidt has appeared in only six games for the Dodgers since signing a three-year, $47 million contract two winters ago. We would be impressed if he is 100 percent in the spring.

Jason Schmidt will have shoulder surgery Wednesday to clean up scar tissue that was preventing him from getting over the top enough in his delivery and also to repair "arthritic changes in the AC joint," according to Los Angeles Daily News.

Our View:Two years of his three year deal worth over $45 million are complete and Schmidt has thrown all of 25.2 innings. It is unclear if Schmidt will ever be able to return to his former dominance.

Jason Schmidt's 2008 season will end without him throwing a single pitch in the big leagues as the team has decided to shut him down after he has been unable to return to form from a shoulder operation, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The team is unclear just how to proceed with Schmidt and he might still need additional surgery on his ailing shoulder. Two years of his three year deal worth over $45 million are complete and Schmidt has thrown all of 25.2 innings.

Jason Schmidt threw a bullpen session Wednesday and is looking to start a rehab assignment in Triple-A sometime next week, according to Dodgers.com.

Our View:Schmidt has not pitched in the major leagues yet this season, and it is still possible that he won't. Either way, fantasy owners should not rush to add him to their rosters.

Jason Schmidt is not giving up hope to pitch in the majors again this season, according to the LA Times. He is recovering from right shoulder surgery. He threw off a mound Sunday and Tuesday, and is scheduled to do so again Friday.

Our View:Schmidt may be hopeful, but the team does not expect him back, and noted that he is running out of time to make a rehab assignment in the minors.
