Newsbreakers
September 15, 2008
Chris Davis is getting a night off tonight due to a slightly sore back, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:The back injury will not keep Davis out of the lineup for very long. He should be back in the lineup tomorrow.
September 10, 2008
Chris Davis hit his 15th home run of the year on Wednesday as he knocked in his 43rd run of the year in his 66th game. Hank Blalock also went deep for the fifth time this season.

Our View:Davis hand't knocked in a run in six games, and it had been 10 games since he went deep. With the continued health issues of Milton Bradley, there have been plenty at-bats to go around for all the teams bats. Davis has clearly shown enough to warrant a look next season as a potential 30 homer bat.
August 29, 2008
Chris Davis went deep for the 14th time this season on Wednesday night as he had two hits and two RBI. Milton Bradley also went deep for the Rangers (22nd on the year).

Our View:Hank Blalock went 1-for-4 from first base as Davis continues to see time at third base. Davis already qualifies at first base for next season (48 games), and need 12 more appearances at third base as well (eight games this season).
August 19, 2008
Chris Davis went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer against the Tigers on Tuesday night. Those three runs were all that the Rangers scored.

Our View:It was a rare quiet night for the most productive lineup in the majors. Davis's numbers have slumped over the past two weeks, and it's nice to see him have a big game like this.
August 19, 2008
Chris Davis has been working at third base, and he will move across the diamond on Friday when Hank Blalock returns to the lineup, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Our View:They haven't cut Blalock yet? Seriously, the club keeps moving people around to accommodate for Hank, who can't stay healthy. Enough of that rant, though. Davis has played twice at third and should gain fantasy eligibility in the near future.
August 11, 2008
Chris Davis was named the AL Rookie of the Month after hitting .303-8-16 in July, according to the Miami Herald. The eighth home runs lead all rookies on the month and helped to lead to a .983 OPS.

Our View:Davis has clearly brushed aside all thoughts of a demotion if/when Hank Blalock ever returns from the disabled list. Look for Davis to continue to hit for power though it would be a surprise to see his average remain near .300.
August 5, 2008
Chris Davis only had one hit on Tuesday night, but he managed to drive in four runs against the Yankees. The rookie is hitting .289-11-26 in 35 games since being called up.

Our View:The kid can hit. It'll be interesting to see just how high his stock rises before next spring. Over three levels, Davis has batted .320 with 34 homers, 99 RBI, and 95 runs in 102 games. That's decent.
July 31, 2008
Rangers first baseman Chris Davis accumulated three hits in four at-bats and scored two runs in the Rangers 8-5 loss to Seattle.

Our View:Davis ended up hitting .303 in July, with eight home runs and 16 RBI. He's being picked up quickly, so grab him right now if you can.
July 22, 2008
The Rangers posted 10 total hits on the night but managed to find just two runs through that effort, falling 10-2 against the White Sox. The Rangers were led by rookie first baseman Chris Davis , going 3-for-4 at the plate with his eighth homer of the season total one RBI and one run scored.

Our View:Davis is just getting comfortable in the show, but he has posted nine hits (including two homers) over his last eight games.
July 19, 2008
Chris Davis went deep again Saturday, hitting a two-run shot off the Twins' Livan Hernandez in the second inning. Davis has seven bombs in just 64 at-bats since being recalled.

Our View:Davis is batting just .250, but he's certainly made up for it with power. The team has decided to put Hank Blalock back at third, so Davis' job is safe for now.
July 8, 2008
Chris Davis went yard again - the fifth time in his first 25 major league at-bats. His solo shot was his only hit of the night.

Our View:The young first baseman has certainly shown the power stroke, but he is hitting just .216 with 10 Ks in 37 at-bats. We'll chalk up the production as a fluke for now, but he may end up being this season's Jack Cust. He will be helped by playing in a hitter's park.
July 7, 2008
Chris Davis hit his fourth home run of the season off Angels starter Ervin Santana in Texas' five-run fifth inning.

Our View:Davis continues to make a case to remain with the team for the remainder of the season. The rookie is scuffling with his average (.206) but his four home runs, nine RBI and six runs scored in 11 games makes him a valuable fantasy option in all formats.
June 29, 2008
Chris Davis started his second major league game on Sunday, and just as he did in the first outing, the rookie socked a homer. The AP reports that Davis is the first Rangers player in history to hit a home run in each of his first two starts. Davis, 22, opened the year at Double-A and hit .333-23-73-68 over 77 games and two levels before getting his call.

Our View:We're not sure what the Rangers are planning with Hank Blalock, but they can't move this kid off of first base, right? Even Josh Hamilton thinks Davis is having a ridiculous year thus far.
June 26, 2008
Top prospect Chris Davis has been recalled from Triple-A and will join the Rangers tonight in Houston, according to the Star Telegram. The team did not announce a corresponding move.

Our View:The first baseman blasted 23 homers with 73 RBI this season between Double-A and Triple-A. Davis displays good power which should bode well for home games at Arlington. Davis is worth a look in AL-only leagues, especially if Hank Blalock doesn't work out at first base. The loser here is Frank Catalanotto who figures to lose a whole bunch of playing time.
June 18, 2008
Chris Davis continues to be the hottest hitter outside the majors. The Rangers prospect hit a pair of two-run homers fro Triple-A Oklahoma on Wednesday. Over the past 10 games, Davis is 17-for-38 with seven homers, 14 RBI, and 14 runs.

Our View:We went into the season thinking Davis might get a call in September, but the 22-year-old is hitting .341-22-69-65 over 71 games. If Hank Blalock doesn't work out at first base or the Rangers are looking for a change at DH, Davis is their guy.
June 16, 2008
Chris Davis keeps on hitting. The first baseman is batting .355 with six homers, 20 RBI, and 18 runs over 22 games since his promotion to Triple-A. Over his two stops, the 22-year-old Davis is hitting .340-19-62-61 over 68 contests.

Our View:The Rangers are set to try out Hank Blalock at first base, but Davis is pushing to get a call later this year. He probably profiles best as a DH in the long run.
May 25, 2008
First baseman Chris Davis has been promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma, according to the Dallas Morning News. Davis was the Rangers' 2007 Minor League Player of the Year. Assistant GM Thad Levine said, "Our hope with him, as well as a lot of our young players, was that they'd develop and progress through the system this year. He's demonstrated what type of hitter he is. It's time to give him a new challenge, to raise the bar."

Our View:Davis is expected to join the Triple-A club today after playing 75 games the last two seasons at Double-A Frisco. Over that span, Davis has a .315 batting average and a .379 on-base percentage in 295 at-bats, with 25 homers and 67 RBI.
April 21, 2008
Chris Davis hit two home runs for Double-A Frisco on Sunday. He is now hitting .352-5-13 for the season.

Our View:Davis is a quality power prospect, but the fear is that he will be exploited by good pitching in upper levels due to his poor plate discipline. He had a terrible 35/150 BB/K ratio last season between High-A and Double-A while hitting 36 homers. He already has 16 strikeouts this season in 14 games.
