David Purcey has been shut down, as he has pitched 182 innings between the minors and majors this season, according to the Toronto Star. Manager Cito Gaston said, "We want to make sure he's around next year, so we've shut him down for the year."

Our View:Purcey held unfavorable fantasy value with a 5.54 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with Toronto this season, and nobody should mind he is done for the season.
September 7, 2008
Purcey threw eight scoreless innings on Sunday to improve his record to 3-5. He allowed six hits, three walks and struck out seven.

Our View:The inconsistency continues. Purcey was coming off a start in which he allowed five runs in three innings. However, he had two outstanding starts during August, including an 11 strikeout performance vs. Tampa Bay. The former first-round pick shows some upside, but he is too unreliable to use for most fantasy owners.

One game after throwing eight innings of one run baseball, Blue Jays hurler David Purcey managed just three innings, allowing seven hits and five runs in Toronto's 7-5 win over the Twins.

Our View:Purcey is not someone for fantasy owners to consider adding to their roster. He has an ERA above 6.00, along with just two wins on the year.

Rookie LHP David Purcey threw an absolute gem for the Blue Jays this evening, but a total absence of offense led to his demise as the Jays fell 1-0 to Tampa Bay. Purcey pitched eight innings, allowing just one run on five hits with no walks and 11 strikeouts on the night.

Our View:It has been all or nothing for Purcey thus far, giving up five earned runs in two of his last five starts yet touting tonight's outing as well as a positive two-hit shutout against Detroit on August 13th. He has walked just nine batters over that span with 29 strikeouts.

The Blue Jays found all the work they needed from starter David Purcey this evening, getting the 4-3 win despite a lack of offensive support. Purcey pitched six innings, allowing no runs on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:Purcey moves to 2-3 on the season with a 5.93 ERA. He halts a string of two losses in which he surrendered eight combined earned runs. Needless to say, there is room for improvement.
