Joba Chamberlain is scheduled to appear in court December 17 following his arrest on suspicion of drunken-driving, according to the AP. Chamberlain was arrested shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday and charged with driving under the influence, speeding and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.

Our View:Lancaster County Chief Deputy Attorney Joe Kelly stated that his office has yet to decide on formal charges against Chamberlain. We will keep you posted on Chamberlain's legal matter when more details are disclosed.

Joba Chamberlain apologized for "an error in judgment" on Sunday which resulted in an arrest for driving under the influence, according to the AP. He said, "I want to apologize to the New York Yankees and the fans for an error in judgment and for putting myself in a difficult situation. I intend to properly resolve this situation, and do not intend to be in such a situation again. My goal is to focus on pitching for the Yankees in the 2009 season."

Our View:Lancaster County Attorney Gary Lacey will get paperwork on the case Monday and decide what, if any, charges will be filed. Chamberlain’s blood-alcohol content is yet to be disclosed.

Joba Chamberlain was reportedly arrested for driving under the influence Saturday morning close to his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska, according to the Journal News. The 23-year-old hurler was pulled over after being observed as speeding in a 2006 BMW 750i shortly after 1 a.m. on U.S. 77. Chamberlain was arrested after a smell of alcohol was detected and an open container of alcohol was observed on the front passenger seat of his vehicle. Chamberlain was taken to the Cornhusker Place Detox and booked on charges of driving under the influence, having an open container of alcohol and speeding.

Our View:The Yankees are yet to release a comment regarding the arrest. We will keep you posted when more details are disclosed.

The New York Post reports that Yankees co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner said one of the first off-season decisions was that Joba Chamberlain will be used as a starter next year.

Our View:Steinbrenner said that before last year, but Chamberlain opened in the bullpen, was converted to a starter for 12 games, suffered a shoulder problem and finished the season in the bullpen with a tight right shoulder. Strengthening the rotation is the Yankees' top priority and many believe Chamberlain possesses ace-like stuff. The right-hander was 4-3 with a 2.60 ERA in 42 games (12 starts). In 1001/3 innings he fanned 118 and walked 39. He was 3-1 as a starter. The Yankees are expected to go hard after free-agent pitchers CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and may show interest in Derek Lowe and Jake Peavy, who reportedly has been placed on the trading block by the Padres.

Newsday reports that Brian Cashman expects Joba Chamberlain to be in the starting rotation for 2009.

Our View:Joba started 12 games this season with mixed results and he rarely went deep into games. With an offseason to prepare for the role, expect Joba to be more effective in 2009.
