Newsbreakers
November 21, 2008
The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox would have to part with Clay Buchholz or Michael Bowden to acquire either Taylor Teagarden or Jarrod Saltalamacchia from the Rangers.

Our View:The Red Sox will need a catcher if Jason Varitek departs in free agency, but it remains to be seen if they will trade their top pitching prospects to the Rangers to fill the void.
November 14, 2008
Clay Buchholz made strides during his stint in the Arizona Fall League, according to the Boston Globe. Double-A Portland pitching coach Mike Cather said, "It was the hardest I've ever seen him work. It was the most disciplined I've ever seen Clay. It was the most I've ever seen Clay grow up."

Our View:Buchholz held a disappointing 6.75 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 76 innings with the Red Sox in 2008, but looks to make a better impact in 2009, making him a potential sleeper if he can maintain a role in the rotation.
October 29, 2008
Clay Buchholz went five innings giving up one run on five hits in the AFL on Thursday. The Red Sox prospect also struck out three and walked two.

Our View:It wasn't a great season in the big leagues for Buchholz but he is trying to return to form. In four starts in Arizona he has a record of 1-1 and an ERA of 2.60.
October 16, 2008
Clay Buchholz threw 5.0 innings of one-hit baseball in his start in the Arizona Fall League on Thursday, according to RedSox.com.

Our View:Buchholz has now thrown eight innings while allowing one hit in the AFL. He is regaining his stuff after a horrid year in the big leagues.
September 19, 2008
Clay Buchholz will work in the Arizona Fall League to further his development, according to the Boston Globe. Players are eligible for the league if they have less than one year of MLB experience. The Sox have generally used it for Double-A players.

Our View:He threw a no-hitter in 2007, but was a disappointment this season as he went 2-9 over 76 innings, with a 6.75 ERA and 1.76 WHIP. The Sox intend for him to throw 25 innings over a month in the Fall League.
