Wladimir Balentien hit his fifth home run of the season on Friday night as he scored a run and knocked in two.

Our View:Balentin should play most nights down the stretch now that the Mariners have purged themselves of Jose Vidro. Dating back to his last trip to the majors, Balentin is working on a 6-game hitting streak.

The Mariners recalled outfielder Wladimir Balentien on Tuesday. He hit .196 over 107 at-bats with the Mariners earlier in the season, and he has batted .304-10-31-30 over his last 32 games at Triple-A.

Our View:Balentien, 24, is a future fixture in the Mariners outfield, but he may need to split time with Jeff Reed in the coming months. He could also see some action at DH, where Jeff Clement continues to struggle. Balentien is worth a look in AL-only formats.

Wladimir Balentien has been optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, according to the Seattle Times. As an adjoining move, the team recalled catcher Jeff Clement in hopes to add a boost to the offense.

Our View:Balentien was given 107 at-bats to prove his worth to the Mariners, but only hit .196, with 35 strikeouts, which led to the demotion.

Mariners right fielder Wladimir Balentien says he's been getting lots of airtime on radio and television, not to mention newspaper write-ups, in his native Curacao since being called up by the team last week, this according to the Seattle Times. His family back home on the Caribbean island has given him regular updates. "They tell me a lot of people have been talking about it down there," said Balentien, who hit his second three-run homer in less than a week on Monday night.

Our View:Balentien played in his seventh straight game on Tuesday night. The right-handed hitter has 25 official at bats with three runs, six RBI and two home runs in his week of work since being called up from the farm. These numbers along with his .280 average are impressive to say the least.

Wladimir Balentien hit his second home run in his first six games helping the Mariners defeat the Rangers 7-3 on Monday night.

Our View:The rookie has made a splash since his call up, and while he doesn't get the pub that rookie teammate Jeff Clement does in the media, he's easily outperformed him.

Wladimir Balentien is starting in right field for the third straight game as the Mariners invade the Evil Empire for the first game of a three-game set.

Our View:Balentien made a splash in his debut on Wednesday going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a home run.

Wasting little time, Wladimir Balentien made a spectacular 2008 debut on Wednesday night as he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, with one of the hits being a home run off Cliff Lee.

Our View:The Mariners resisted many offers for a trade involving Balentin this off-season because of their expectation that he will have many mights like this. If you have spot on your roster considering filling it with Wladimir.
April 30, 2008
Updating an earlier report, Wladimir Balentien will not just be a part-time player with the Mariners, he will be their starting right fielder, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View:The team's best minor league hitter will be given every chance to be an everyday player. If he isn't already rostered he should immediately be picked up in AL Only leagues, and for those of you who like to speculate he also can be rostered in deep mixed leagues.

Wladimir Balentien has been called up from Triple-A Tacoma, according to the AP. The team cut outfielder Brad Wilkerson to make room on the roster. They cut pinch-hitter Greg Norton as well, to make room for catcher Jeff Clement, who was also called up from Triple-A.

Our View:Wilkerson only hit .232 with no homers over 19 games, and Balentien holds more upside as an outfielder for the team.

Wladimir Balentien has apparently avoided major injury. The outfield prospect rammed his left knee into concrete while making a sliding catch on Saturday night. Tests showed no broken bones or torn ligaments, the Seattle Times reports.

Our View:Balentien is a promising Triple-A outfielder, and we hope to see him in Seattle sooner rather than later. He'll likely be the guy who eventually kicks out Brad Wilkerson.

Wladimir Balentien was the biggest name optioned to Class AAA Tacoma on Monday morning, this according to Seattle Times and Mariners beat writer Geoff Baker. Baker suggests that Balentien could be called up by the team at some point this summer. "He's a young kid learning the strike zone and we want him playing every day,'' Mariners manager John McLaren said, later adding that "to me, he mirrors (Jeff) Clement. We don't want those guys sitting around as extra players. We want them playing on a regular basis and if we need him, he'll be ready." Balentien has no current fantasy value outside of deep keeper or dynasty formats.
