Brandon Moss should be ready to participate in spring training in February with no limitations from knee surgery, according to Scout.com. Moss did not undergo a microfracture procedure last week in Vail, Colorado. An end-of-the-season MRI had revealed cartilage being separated from the bones in his left knee, and it was determined that microfracture procedure would be the best course of action. Such a procedure typically requires two months of rest, followed by four to six months of rehab. Dr. Richard Steadman in Vail did a diagnostic scope on Moss' knee and reported back to the Pirates that he felt arthroscopy was the best course of action. That is a less invasive form of surgery. The surgery was performed last week and requires a much shorter recovery time.

Our View:This is good news, as Moss is expected to compete for one of the corner outfield spots in the spring. He was formerly a top prospect in the Red Sox organization.

Brandon Moss will have surgery on his injured knee after taking a couple of days to think about it, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The microfracture surgery will likely sideline him for 4-6 months, though there is a chance that his recovery could take longer if more extensive injuries are found during the procedure.

Our View:Moss could be a nice NL-only add next season if he is given a full-time role with the club, but keep an eye on his prognosis after the surgery and on whether or not the Pirates add a quality bat to the outfield mix.

Brandon Moss has been shut down for the season because of a left knee injury, and a doctor has advised that Moss have surgery, which would cause him to miss 4-6 months, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Moss has a lack of cartilage that causes friction, though he said Tuesday that feels fine. Team physician, Dr. Patrick DeMeo, is who advised Moss to have the surgery, but the outfielder will have his knee checked out by Dr. John Steadman, a noted knee specialist, in Vail, Colorado, at some point in the next couple of days before making any decision.

Our View:If he does get cut open, Moss could miss some of spring training but would likely be fine by the time the regular season rolls around.
August 30, 2008
Brandon Moss went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in Saturday's 11-3 loss to the Brewers. His other hit went for a double.

Our View:Moss has seven homers for the season, with two coming over his last five games. He is worth a look in deeper NL-only leagues for fantasy owners in need of power.
August 21, 2008
Brandon Moss is dealing with a twisted left ankle, but returned to the Pirates' lineup Wednesday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:He was only bothered by the injury as he went 2-for-4 against the Cardinals, with a single and a double.
