Reds beat writer Mark Sheldon believes that Homer Bailey is "in the mix" for the fifth starters role with the Reds in 2009, according to the Reds Official Website.

Our View:Bailey, who has one of the best names in baseball, has been beaten around continually as a Reds starter with a 6.72 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP over 17 starts the past two years. The teams 2004 first round pick, Bailey must learn to use his off-speed stuff more effectively if he is ever to reach the heights once predicted for him.

Homer Bailey will miss his next start at Triple-A Louisville due to a a mild sprain of the MCL of his right knee, according to Reds.com.

Our View:He will be reevaluated by team physician Dr. Timothy Kremchek before the end of the week. Bailey holds no fantasy value as he went 0-6 over eight starts with the Reds this season, with a dismal 7.93 ERA and 2.09 WHIP.
August 10, 2008
Homer Bailey has been sent down to Triple-A Louisville, according to the AP. Aaron Harang has been activated from the DL as the corresponding move.

Our View:Bailey has a future with the Reds, but the 22-year-old clearly proved he is not yet ready to make an impact as he went winless over eight starts, with a 7.93 ERA and 2.09 WHIP.
August 6, 2008
Homer Bailey was rocked for six earned runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Brewers at home, with three walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:Bailey remains winless at 0-6, and his ERA climbs higher to 7.93. The 22-year-old clearly is not ready for the majors.
August 1, 2008
Homer Bailey allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk as he was only able to record six outings on Friday night in his fifth loss of the season.

Our View:Bailey simply cannot put it together at this level, and whispers of him being a potential AAAA player are growing (too good for minors, not good enough for the majors). Still, he is only 22 years old, so he has plenty of time to figure things out.
