Newsbreakers
July 17, 2008
Triple-A Toledo first baseman Mike Hessman has made the Olympic baseball team, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:The Tigers' prospect hit 30 homers over 95 games with Toledo this season, and will provide great power to Team USA.
May 14, 2008
Mike Hessman hit his 18th home run of the season for Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.

Our View:Man or machine? Hessman has seven home runs in the past week and leads the minors in home runs. He should see the majors at some point, but that does not mean that the minor league veteran will actually see playing time.
May 10, 2008
Mike Hessman went 3-for-5 with two home runs on Friday for Triple-A Toledo, giving him 14 homers for the year.

Our View:Hessman has major league experience and can play several positions, but he was already bypassed in favor of Matt Joyce by the Tigers. The .313-14-27 line makes Hessman an impressive International League All-Star candidate, at least.
April 20, 2008
Mike Hessman went 4-for-5 with three home runs and five RBI for Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.

Our View:Hessman failed to make the Tigers out of spring training, but he will likely see the majors at some point this season. He has displayed quite a bit of power during his professional career, including the majors. This big game should continue to keep him on the radar should the Tigers need a corner infield or pinch-hit fill-in in the near future.
July 23, 2007
The Tigers purchased the contract of Mike Hessman from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, according to the AP. He will be making his season debut and will start at first base and bat eighth against the White Sox on Monday night. He led the International League with 27 home runs and hit .256 with 87 RBI.

Our View:His days as a prospect are over but he could give the Tigers a power boost at the bottom of the order in the short term.
