The Mets claimed former Yankees first baseman Andy Phillips off waivers from the Reds on Wednesday, according to the New York Post.

Our View:Phillips, who was only 3-for-21 with the Reds, follows his former Mets GM Wayne Krivsky to the Mets. The Mets take on the Yankees in the Subway Series starting in two days, so it will be interesting to see if Phillips plays a role.

The Reds called up Andy Phillips on Wednesday, the Cincinnati Enquirer notes.

Our View:The Reds needed a first baseman after booting Scott Hatteberg on Tuesday. Phillips, 31, is nothing more than a backup with an okay right-handed bat.

Andy Phillips hit a home run for the third straight day in Triple-A, according to RedReporter.com. Thursday's homer went for a grand slam, and he now has 11 RBI on the season.

Our View:Phillips was competing for a reserve spot as an infielder with the Reds during spring training, but didn't make the cut. He is benefitting from the practice in Triple-A, and is among the Reds' hottest performers in the system right now.
