Kenny Rogers filed for free agency Tuesday, according to Sports Network. He is still deciding whether or not he will pitch next year or retire.

Our View:Rogers would likely want to return to Detroit if he does decide to continue playing, but it remains to be seen if that interest would be mutual after The Gambler's disastrous 2008 campaign.

Kenny Rogers wouldn't directly commit to playing in 2009, but it sounds as if he wants to continue pitching, according to the Detroit Free Press. "I know I can pitch," he said. "I could go out and have a great year next year. It can happen."

Our View:It's not clear whether the Tigers really want him back. The Gambler had a horrible 2008 season, posting a 5.70 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in 30 starts.

ESPN is reporting that Kenny Rogers will not pitch again this year for the Tigers.

Our View:Manager Jim Leyland gave no reason why Rogers was shut down for the year. Rogers was having a rough year with an ERA of over five.

Kenny Rogers wiggled his way through four innings on Sunday night before he allowed five runs in the fifth inning against the White Sox. All told, Rogers allowed eight hits and two walks which led to seven runs in just 4.2 innings of work.

Our View:The Tigers offense came back to tie the game off the White Sox bullpen sparing Rogers from taking the defeat. His ERA has ballooned to 5.70 thanks to 4-straight outings of at least six earned runs allowed. This is likely the end of the road for Rogers.

MLB.com reports that the Tigers would like to get Kenny Rogers back on the mound on Saturday. The Tigers skipped his last start for a turn through the rotation to allow him to rest and gear up for the White Sox this weekend.

Our View:Rogers last pitched on Sept. 4 against the Angels, who hit him around for six runs on eight hits in two innings before he was pulled after just 39 pitches. We do not recommend gambling on him this time through.
