Wang (foot) played catch on Sunday, reports MLB.com. He is on track to be ready for spring training next season.

Our View:This is encouraging news for the Yankees' starter.
August 20, 2008
Manager Joe Girardi believes Chien-Ming Wang is unlikely to be available to pitch in October if the Yankees make the playoffs, according to the NY Daily News. He is still wearing a walking boot on his injured right foot.

Our View:It was previously believed that he may be able to pitch in the playoffs, but that no longer looks to be the case. The Yankees are 11 games back in the AL East, with 37 contests to go.
August 1, 2008
The Yankees worst fears were realized on Friday when manager Joe Girardi announced that former ace Chien-Ming Wang would indeed miss the rest of the regular season due to his injured foot, according to the New York Daily News. "The chances of us getting him back September 1 are zero," Girardi said. "October 1? It's possible."

Our View:Wang could still help out the Yankees if they were to make the playoffs, but they will have to get there on the arms of pitchers like Darrell Rasner and Sidney Ponson and not their staff leader.
July 29, 2008
Yankees RHP Chien-Ming Wang had his cast removed today and is now sporting a protective boot, but the team reports a timeline for his rehab is still unknown, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The Yankees ace injured his right foot running the bases during an Interleague game in Houston on June 15. He was placed on the disabled list on June 17, retroactive to June 16, with a ligament sprain and a partial tendon tear. Wang said he did not have a clear idea of when he would be able to start pitching again, and manager Joe Girardi said the timeline for Wang's rehabilitation could be similar to the spring training process, probably about six to seven weeks.
June 17, 2008
The Yankees officially placed Chien-Ming Wang on the DL Tuesday. The righty will miss at least six weeks, and likely more, with a mid-foot sprain of the Lisfranc ligament and a partial tear of the peroneal longus tendon in his right foot, according to SportsTicker. Wang injured the foot while running the bases on Sunday.

Our View:It's possible Wang's season is over, though the Yankees hope he can return not long after the All-Star break. Dan Giese will take his spot in the rotation for the time being.
June 17, 2008
Yankees' co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner blasted the NL for not having a DH rule, following the injury sustained by Chien-Ming Wang, according to the Denver Post. Steinbrenner said, "My only message is simple. The National League needs to join the 21st century."

Our View:Wang was injured while running the bases during the Yankees' 13-0 win over the Astros, and is out 2-3 months.
June 16, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang doesn't need surgery for his foot injury, but could miss two-to-three months of action, according to the NY Daily News. A source close to the situation said, "He's going to be out for awhile. It could be 60 to 90 days. The good news is he doesn't need surgery. We're delighted it's not more serious, but we're very concerned that it'll take him out for a couple months."

Our View:That means he will be on the shelf until at least mid-August, on the short end. This is a tough loss for the Yankees' rotation, and the team is already dealing with injuries to Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy. The team is yet to name a replacement for Wang.
June 15, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang hurled five scoreless innings, with six hits allowed, in Sunday's 13-0 blowout win over the Astros, with no walks and three strikeouts. He was forced out of action due to a foot injury, but went long enough to earn his eighth victory of the season.

Our View:He has only allowed one earned run over his last two starts, and that was the third time he left the game with no runs surrendered.
June 15, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday, according to the Journal News. Manager Joe Girardi commented that he would be shocked if Wang made his next scheduled start.

Our View:The Yankees said Wang sustained a sprained foot Sunday, not his Achilles tendon or ankle. Wang is reportedly in a lot of pain, and the team won't know how bad the ailment is until tomorrow or Tuesday.
June 15, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang has suffered an apparent leg injury during Sunday's game against the Astros, according to the AP. Wang ran hard around third base and scored on a Derek Jeter single during the sixth inning. Wang then pulled up lame as he crossed the plate, was bent over in pain, and had to be escorted off the field by teammates.

Our View:No further information is available at this time. We will keep you posted regarding the severity of his ailment.
June 11, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang improved to 7-2 win a win over the A's on Tuesday night. The right-hander held the AL West club to seven hits and two runs over 7.1 innings. Wang struck out two and walked two.

Our View:Wang didn't make it easy on himself. The A's got the leadoff hitter on in the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, but he was aided by four double plays. Anyway, it's nice to see this line after a string of pour outings.
June 5, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang continued an awful run of pitching on Thursday as he allowed seven runs, six earned in a no-decision against the Blue Jays.

Our View:Wang continues to confound as he has now allowed at least five earned runs in each of his last four starts leading to an 8.75 ERA. We've said it all along, too many walks and not enough strikeouts eventually catch up to a guy. Consider Wang caught.
May 31, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang surrendered five runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Twins, with three walks and four strikeouts. He ended the night with a no decision.

Our View:Wang has now allowed at least five runs in each of his last three starts. He is still 6-2 for the season, but his ERA climbed to 4.14.
May 31, 2008
The New York Yankees have slated ace Chien-Ming Wang for tonight's start at the Minnesota Twins, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Wang has allowed a total of just 63 hits over 73 innings of work this season, and while he is 2-0 over his career versus Minnesota, he comes off a tough no-decision against Seattle, surrendering five runs (all earned) on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings.
May 26, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang surrendered five runs over 6.1 innings (with four walks) in his last start, but he insists that his strained right calf wasn't an issue, according to the NY Post. He did not have an answer for his lack of control, and simply stated, "The ball was all over the place, I had no control." His start was pushed back a day due to the calf, and Manager Joe Girardi said, "He's not used to going on that extra rest. He had a couple of walks that hurt us, but he kept us in the game."

Our View:Wang has now allowed 12 earned runs over his last two starts. Hopefully he will bounce back in his next outing. He is still 6-2 with a solid 1.22 WHIP over 11 starts.
May 25, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang gave up five runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings in Sunday's 6-5 win over Seattle, with four walks and two strikeouts. Wang ended his day with a no decision.

Our View:Wang had his scheduled start on Saturday pushed to today, even though his strained right calf felt fine when throwing on Thursday. Wang has now allowed 12 earned runs over his last two starts.
May 23, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang has had his next start pushed back from Saturday to Sunday, even though his right calf felt fine when throwing on Thursday, the New York Post reports. Mike Mussina will pitch on short rest on Saturday.

Our View:It doesn't sound like fantasy owners should be too worried. Joe Girardi is just being cautious.
May 22, 2008
The Yankees report RHP Chien-Ming Wang completed his regular bullpen session today without pain or discomfort, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Wang is nursing a mild strain of his right calf, an injury suffered during the seventh inning of his last start against the Mets. Wang noticed discoloration in the leg later that evening and went to the hospital, at which time an MRI was performed that showed only a mild strain. The team reports Wang will be asked to run and cover first base on Friday. If he does so without issue, the hurler will cleared for his next scheduled start on Saturday.
May 21, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang is dealing with a mild calf strain, according to the NY Daily News. An MRI showed no serious damage. Wang said he suffered the injury while covering first base in the seventh inning on Sunday night. "I'll be fine," Wang said. "It's better. Now it's good. I don't feel it." Yankees media relations director Jason Zillo said that Wang is not expected to miss his next turn in the rotation, which is scheduled for Saturday.

Our View:The Yankees don't need any other problems, though this at least doesn't sound serious. We'll let you know if Wang has any kind of setback and can't go.
May 18, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang hung around long enough to have a tough night as the Mets were able to get to him for seven runs in 7.2 innings of work. Wang walked three and had only one K on the night.

Our View:This was one of those nights were a couple of the ground balls he induced just found the holes. Still, tonights reversal of his K/BB ratio is a sign that needs to be monitored going forward. After this outing, his ERA rests at a more reasonable 3.51.
May 18, 2008
The Yankees will look to RHP Chien-Ming Wang to push them away from the sweep as they face the crosstown rival New York Mets today at Yankee Stadium.

Our View:Wang is 6-1 with a 2.90 ERA but received no runs of support in his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays as he gave up one run on seven hits over seven innings. He has faced the Mets once and emerged victorious, surrendering just two runs on six hits over 8 2/3 innings.
May 13, 2008
The Yankees suffered the heartbreaking 2-1 loss in 11 innings to the Tampa Bay Rays, but starter Chien-Ming Wang continues to prove his value. Tonight he left with no decision, pitching seven innings to allow one run on seven hits, walking three and striking out two.

Our View:The struggles to balance strikeouts and walks continue, but Wang has been eating innings and keeping his team in the hunt.
May 7, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang lost his first game of the season as he allowed three runs in seven innings against the Indians.

Our View:After a bit of a rough start, Wang found his groove and ended up with solid numbers on the night. He will continue to win games, but you have to be a little concerned that his ERA will stay in the low 3's.
May 2, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang became the American League's first six-game winner, ending the Yankees' three-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.

Our View:Wang threw six scoreless innings before giving the ball to Kyle Farnsworth, Joba Chamberlain and Mariano Rivera to complete the Yankees victory. Wang is now 7-0 in his career against the Mariners.
April 27, 2008
Yankee RHP Chien-Ming Wang had his best game working today, going seven full innings to hold the Cleveland Indians scoreless on just four hits allowed. Wang collected an impressive NINE strike outs on the day and walked just two, making 73 of 113 total pitches count for strikes.

Our View:Wang now sits at 5-0 and may have reversed the misfortunes that plagues his previous two starts (19 combined hits and 11 combined runs allowed).
April 22, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang scattered 10 hits and improved to 4-0 with a win over the White Sox on Tuesday night. The right-hander allowed three runs, walked two, and struck out five over six innings.

Our View:The hit count was a little high, but that's a pretty typical Wang outing. The hurler is a magnet for victories and a solid No. 4 in mixed fantasy leagues.
April 22, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang will look to remain unbeaten when he takes the mound against the White Sox in Chicago tonight, according to MLB.com. Wang is 3-0 this season, and is notably 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA in three career starts at US Cellular Field.

Our View:He will square off against Jose Contreras, who is 1-1 with a 4.34 ERA. Wang seemingly has the advantage in this match-up.
April 16, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang had his first brutal outing of the season as he was tagged for nine hits and three walks which led to eight runs in four innings.

Our View:Wang just didn't have control of his ball tonight, and the Red Sox made him pay by working the count until they got pitches the could handle. Look for him to bounce back next time out.
April 16, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang is off to a 3-0 start (with a 1.23 ERA) and is set to battle the Red Sox for the second time this season tonight, according to MLB.com. He notably threw a two-hit complete game in his previous outing against Boston.

Our View:He will square off against future star Clay Buchholz, who will be looking for his first win of the season. This should be another great battle in the classic rivalry between New York and Boston.
April 11, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang was magnificent on Friday as he needed just 93 pitches to hurl a CG victory over the Red Sox. Wang permitted two hits and one run on a solo HR. Wang improved to 3-0 while lowering his ERA to 1.23 as his sinker just keeps on sinking and missing the sweet spot of bats.
April 11, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang is going for his third win of the season tonight on the road against the rival Red Sox, according to MLB.com. He has dominated over his first two outings while maintaining a 1.38 ERA, but tonight's game won't be quite as easy, as he holds a 2-3 record and 6.17 ERA at Fenway Park. He last faced Boston on September 15 at Fenway Park, while suffering the loss in a 10-1 blow out. He surrendered five runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings. The Yankees could be without team leader Derek Jeter, to make it even harder on him.
April 1, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang picked up the win in the final home opener at Yankee Stadium Tuesday, limiting the Blue Jays to two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two. He retired 13 on the ground versus five in the air. Wang isn't super fantasy option because of his lack of Ks, but he's sure to pile up wins again this season.
March 26, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang was off his game against Philadelphia on Wednesday as he allowed four runs on six hits over five innings of work, with two walks and two strikeouts. His spring ERA climbs to 8.04 and the Yankees must be displeased with their top of the rotation starter right now.
March 21, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang will be the Yankees starting on opening day after back-to-back 19 win seasons, this according to ESPN. There is no denying the guy is a winner on the field, but his fantasy value is limited by terrible strikeout numbers and merely a solid WHIP. Wang is a 3-4 fantasy starter, not the 1-2 that he is often drafted to be.
March 12, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang bounced back from a putrid Grapefruit League outing last week with a solid performance versus a team he typically struggles against. According to MLB.com the sinkerballing right-hander broke two bats and limited Toronto to a pair of singles, reaching his pitch count after 3 2/3 innings. "I'm still not 100 percent," Wang said. "I'm still not in game shape. But I'll get better." Wang is undervalued this March. The average draft position for the Yankees' opening day starter is the middler rounds of traditional formats. This from a guy who has back-to-back 19-win seasons.
March 8, 2008
RHP Chien-Ming Wang threw 75-pitches during a 25-minute bullpen session two days after allowing six runs in two-thirds of an inning against Cincinnati Reds, according to the Associated Press. The expected opening-day starter worked on the balance point of his delivery. "Better at the end," Wang said. Following such a troubled outing, it is understandable that concerns follow. It is still early, but Wang is the projected starter for opening day and the rotation is one of the more significant worries for the Yanks this season. Stay tuned.
March 6, 2008
After throwing two scoreless innings on Saturday, Chien-Ming Wang couldn't escape the first inning on Thursday vs. the Reds. The Yankees right-hander gave up six runs in 2/3rds of an inning, throwing 32 pitches to 11 hitters. Cincinnati scored six times in the bottom of the first.
March 1, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang tossed two scoreless innings on Saturday, allowing but one hit and registering one strike out. Wang, who is currently the Yankees projected opening day starter, bolstered his fantasy value in his first spring outing.
February 24, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang tentatively is slated to start the Yankees' regular-season opener on March 31, according to the New York Daily News. That's how the rotation currently plays out after the spring will begin with Mike Mussina and Jeff Karstens facing off in an intrasquad scrimmage Wednesday. Ian Kennedy and Joba Chamberlain will pitch Friday against the University of South Florida and Wang will hit the mound Saturday in the exhibition opener.
February 15, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang lost his arbitration hearing against his employer, the New York Yankees, on Friday, according to the team's official website. Wang was awarded $4 million instead of the $4.6 million he was seeking. It's difficult to understand how the two sides couldn't find common ground on the 600K difference. After four arbitration hearings the owners have jumped out to an early lead with a first inning Grand Slam: Owners 4 - Players 0.
February 13, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang is not going to get the long-term deal from the Yankees that he desires, and it appears he'll be unable to avoid going to arbitration with the club tomorrow. "I want to," Wang told the NY Post of inking a multi-year contract. "They told me it's not the time because for pitchers it's hard to stay healthy." Wang, who will turn 28 next month, has 19 wins each of the last two seasons.
February 8, 2008
The Yankees and Chien-Ming Wang seem headed for arbitration, according to LoHud.com. “I expect there will be a hearing,” Yankees GM Brian Cashman said. “There have been talks but they haven’t been productive.” The Yankees submitted $4 million while Wang and agent Alan Nero countered with $4.6 million. Coming off back-to-back 19-win seasons, Wang is likely to get the higher number.
