Newsbreakers
June 17, 2008
The Yankees officially placed Chien-Ming Wang on the DL Tuesday. The righty will miss at least six weeks, and likely more, with a mid-foot sprain of the Lisfranc ligament and a partial tear of the peroneal longus tendon in his right foot, according to SportsTicker. Wang injured the foot while running the bases on Sunday.

Our View:It's possible Wang's season is over, though the Yankees hope he can return not long after the All-Star break. Dan Giese will take his spot in the rotation for the time being.
June 17, 2008
Yankees' co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner blasted the NL for not having a DH rule, following the injury sustained by Chien-Ming Wang, according to the Denver Post. Steinbrenner said, "My only message is simple. The National League needs to join the 21st century."

Our View:Wang was injured while running the bases during the Yankees' 13-0 win over the Astros, and is out 2-3 months.
June 16, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang doesn't need surgery for his foot injury, but could miss two-to-three months of action, according to the NY Daily News. A source close to the situation said, "He's going to be out for awhile. It could be 60 to 90 days. The good news is he doesn't need surgery. We're delighted it's not more serious, but we're very concerned that it'll take him out for a couple months."

Our View:That means he will be on the shelf until at least mid-August, on the short end. This is a tough loss for the Yankees' rotation, and the team is already dealing with injuries to Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy. The team is yet to name a replacement for Wang.
June 15, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang hurled five scoreless innings, with six hits allowed, in Sunday's 13-0 blowout win over the Astros, with no walks and three strikeouts. He was forced out of action due to a foot injury, but went long enough to earn his eighth victory of the season.

Our View:He has only allowed one earned run over his last two starts, and that was the third time he left the game with no runs surrendered.
June 15, 2008
Chien-Ming Wang is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday, according to the Journal News. Manager Joe Girardi commented that he would be shocked if Wang made his next scheduled start.

Our View:The Yankees said Wang sustained a sprained foot Sunday, not his Achilles tendon or ankle. Wang is reportedly in a lot of pain, and the team won't know how bad the ailment is until tomorrow or Tuesday.
