Garrett Atkins went 2-for-5 with five RBI in Friday's 9-4 win against the Padres at PETCO Park. Both of his hits were home runs.

Our View:He bounced back with a vengeance tonight, as he snapped a 16-game skid without a homer, and set a season-high with five RBI in a game.

The prevailing thought that outfielder Matt Holliday will eventually be traded out of Colorado seems to be dying as moves to seek interest in Garrett Atkins are heating up, according to the Denver Post.

Our View:Atkins is expected to make around $8 million in arbitration next year, and with Ian Stewart developing at third and Todd Helton returning to first, Atkins becomes readily expendable. The Rockies need to trim salary somewhere and Atkins is making a big number and carries the upside that will bring strong prospects in return. The story quotes Troy E. Renck with the Denver Post who also notes the alarming lack of depth at third base in free agency, boosting Atkins' value. It would seem likely the agent for this rising corner infielder is likely to be working the phones now and will be given clearance to seek a deal once the season is over. We'll keep you posted.

Garrett Atkins was back in the starting lineup Friday after missing three starts with strep throat.

Garrett Atkins missed his second straight game Wednesday due to strep throat and his status for Thursday is uncertain, according to the Denver Post. He can barely swallow due to the ailment, but said, "I am going to try to play, but I still have to see how I feel and what the trainers think. I don't want to go backward as far as getting better or hurt myself because my body is weak."

Our View:His sickness comes at a terrible time. The Rockies are playing their most important series of the season against the division-leading Diamondbacks, and Atkins was hitting a team-best .444 on the homestand with seven RBI.

Garrett Atkins will miss his second game in as many nights tonight due to a case of strep throat, according to the Denver Post. It is probable that he will miss Thursday's game as well.
