Newsbreakers
October 6, 2008
Carl Crawford took a bat to his face in batting practice on Thursday but he is still expected to play in Game 4, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Apparently Crawford was walking around the batting cage and wasn't paying attention when he got clipped on a swing from Dioner Navarro. It's been a rough year for Crawford, but he keeps battling through everything.
October 3, 2008
Carl Crawford was in the No. 3 hole in Friday's big Game 2 win against the White Sox. He came through by going 2-for-4 with a run, and RBI, and a stolen base.

Our View:Crawford appears to be completly over his injured finger which caused him to miss a mess of games in the second half. His speed seems fuly restored as the rest likely rejuvenated his hamstrings which had been bothering him.
October 2, 2008
As expected, Rays outfielder Carl Crawford is on the team's ALDS roster, and also in their starting lineup for Game 1, hitting fifth, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Crawford wasn't given much chance to play this game after having surgery on his hand more than a month ago. But he defied all odds and will take part in the Rays first-ever postseason game.
September 30, 2008
Carl Crawford will be on the Rays' ALDS roster, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:He made a rapid recovery from hand surgery last month. Crawford will start in left field but likely won't return to his usual second spot in the order just yet.

MLB.com reports that Carl Crawford played in an instructional league game hoping to prove he is ready for the playoffs. He experienced no pain in his right middle finger during the game. Although he went 0-for-4 on Monday, both hitting coach Steve Henderson and Crawford acknowledged it was more of a timing issue, since Crawford hadn't faced live pitching since the injury occurred. Crawford was also hit by a pitch, stole a base and scored a run. Crawford had one putout in Monday's game and is scheduled to play another instructional contest on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Tropicana Field.

Our View:Crawford was hitting .273 with eight home runs, 10 triples and 57 RBIs at the time of his injury. He also had 25 stolen bases and would be a huge boost for the Rays speed and defense in the postseason. His prolonged absence has also allowed his hamstrings to completely heal. He had been having issues with both of them due to the turf at Tropicana Field, but Monday he reported his hamstrings to be feeling "great."
