The late summer race at California always provides a challenge for NASCAR’s elite, and this past week was no exception. The majority of the 43-car field struggled with handling issues as the race progressed from day to night, but race winner Jimmie Johnson certainly showed no signs of resistance inside his No. 48 machine. Johnson dominated the 250-lap Pepsi 500 at the Auto Club Speedway on Sunday night and earned a perfect Driver Rating from NASCAR—turning in a performance that surely put Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards on notice for the upcoming Chase for the Championship. The two-time current champ led the most laps, and easily sailed his way into victory lane for the third time this season.Associate Editor
