There are talented rookies on every team that are currently living out their boyhood dreams - to play in the National Hockey League. For some, this dream will only last for ten games as rookie contracts and roster limitations prevent rookies from truly blossoming in their freshman season at the elite level. Many of the rookies are returned to the American Hockey League or to the junior ranks to receive more ice time in order to better adapt to the style of the NHL game and to refine their skills on the ice. Although some rookies may toil on the third and fourth lines of NHL teams, the long-term development of future prospects is accomplished in the minor-league system, where a couple of seasons of dominance will enhance future progression.Associate Editor
