This past Sunday, Matt Hasselbeck sat out of the game against the Packers because he hyperextended his knee the week prior. The injury occurred on the first play against the Giants in Week 4 and Hasselbeck remained in most of the game. An MRI later demonstrated a bone bruise. Bone bruises are edema (inflammation) within the bone. Generally, these are created by direct contact. In the knee, this often happens when the top bone (femur) smacks into the bottom bone (tibia). These bruises are like tiny microfractures in the bone. They can hurt until they heal fully. A bad bone bruise can take nearly six weeks to completely resolve.Associate Editor
