Talladega Superspeedway is famous for its huge wrecks, typically dubbed the “Big One” even though there is often more than one, and Sunday’s Amp Energy 500 only aided in that tough reputation. The 188-lap event was plagued with tire issues and two large wrecks that affected nearly half the field. While the tire troubles might have been a surprise, the wrecks were not. The cause of the second wreck, however, was a shocker. Chase contender Carl Edwards nudged teammate Greg Biffle in the wrong place at the wrong time, resulting in a 14-car pileup that red flagged the field and took out a total of six Chase contenders including not just Biffle and himself, but Kevin Harvick, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch as well. Talladega definitely lived up to its reputation.Associate Editor
